What's your race rubber mounted on?

I'm curious what kind of wheels you guys are running on your cars. I'm mostly wondering about club racers, but amd curious about everyone.

Carl Byck 03-10-04 12:22 AM

Real racing, 16x12, 16x11 ~1100.00 a set, circle would be ~400.00 a set, but you need spacers to clear the caliper in front. Carl

REFLUX 03-10-04 12:28 AM

I dont have any race rubber now but I do have the rims:

set of FC convertible rims that I got for cheap
15x6.5, 11lbs
lightweight, tires will be cheap in 15s and if they get fugged up...no big loss!

Silkworm 03-10-04 12:28 AM

Kosei K1s.. I'm thinking about the Team Dynamics wheels for my second set though..

reza 03-10-04 12:44 AM

Carl,

Would we be able to run 16x10 front and 16x11 or 16x12 in back for FD with those real wheel racing?
Does not need to clear fender, as long as it clears arms, and springs...

reza 03-10-04 12:47 AM

never mind. no v710 fits the 16x12 ;)

Redwood 03-10-04 01:36 AM

I'm using a second set of stock GTU rims, can't get much cheaper than that. Then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

redrotorR1 03-10-04 10:30 AM

CCW's ... three piece, forged wheels with the lightened centers.

reza, if you're still running Alex's car ... y'all need to run 17x9.5's with the 275/40 17 V710's. Should fit without any rubbing. :)

Now you tell me...
Just ordered K1s this week. :)

Seriously though, why TD? And which one?

stevensimon 03-10-04 07:03 PM

dynalite 2-piece meshies black with chrome lip. they are 10lbs. 15"-7.5" and they look good too.

Silkworm 03-11-04 12:06 AM

Someone else here mentioned them.. They'll supposedly do custom offsets, hoping to eliminate the need for spacers on my car..

The Koseis are great wheels, please don't think you made a bad choice there. I've bounced off curbs repeatedly, no bending or cracking..

stevensimon,
Did a search for dynalite and only came up with Willwood calipers. Could you let us in on the secret?

Liquid Anarchy 03-11-04 11:30 AM

^ what he said

MPM 03-11-04 01:06 PM

Do you mean Duralite? They are basically defunct at this point. Not doing anything with racing rims, atleast not the last time I called them a few months ago.

Bingo. Im running some kinda light knockoff wheels.

17x9 27mm offset, 20 lbs,

Kumho V710 275/40/17 all around. Stick well.

Liquid Anarchy 03-11-04 05:22 PM

Personally, I'm just wanting something near 16x8, that's cheap, doesn't require spacers, and can be had fo' cheap.

I was planning on some nascar-style wheels, but just wanted to see what everyone else is running.

Steel racing wheels on the street are teh win.

You'll need spacers to clear the FC front caliper on a 16" Nascar Style rim. Carl

reza 03-12-04 01:19 AM

Yea, running Alex's car. I am also running my own car.
I have CCW 17x10 with A3S03 275/40/17
and Alex has CCW 18x10 with A3S03 285/30/18

As soon as my A3S03 wears out we will try the V710 on 275/40/17.
I still have to upgrade my brain to catch up with speed and grip.

Hey Silkworm,

Does Team Dynamic make the proper offset and bolt pattern (15X7 27MM offset 114.3X5)?

I am running one set of K1's and a set of vert rims for rains but I could use another set of dry tire rims.

1RedR1and1RedPEP 03-20-04 08:23 PM

CCW 18x10s
Black anodized
:)

but are they LIGHTER? un-sprung weight is the most important :D

Silkworm 03-22-04 12:43 PM

Man, I dunno about the circle track wheels, I tagged a guy with those wheels in the passenger rear quarterpanel, the wheel folded up into a pretzel.. It was literally had formed square edges. It was a hard hit, but my Kosei came through with just some aluminum lathed off the surface of the wheel and ran the whole race that way.

Well, if you want lighter, the SSR competitions are 9 lbs, but I'm not spending the cash for those.. The Pro Race I wheels are pretty close to the Kosei weight wise.

macdaddy 03-22-04 01:34 PM

In the Spec Miata size (15x7), the TD and K1 are both 13.2#. Class specs are 13# minimum weight.

If you want light/strong, you/ve got to go with the forged wheels ($$$).

I've read that the SSR Comp's will eventually have problems with cracking. It's the risk you take with featherweight wheels. On the flip side of that, John Purner's CCW wheels are maybe a pound or two heavier than the SSR Comp's .... and they've been well proven to withstand track abuse. Take a look at how many racers in T1 give John their money. ;)

MKIV supra stockers 17X8.5 fronts and 17X9.5 rears with Hoosier A3SO3's. I had the centers machined out to fit the 67mm center bore on my FD..... Couldn't pass em up at $500 for all 4 wheels. Painted Black on my Red FD.

Carl Byck 03-28-04 10:46 PM

That would be 8" fronts, not 8.5". However a 255-40-17 V700 works perfect on the 8" contrary to much expert testimony. I am running MKIV Supra rears all the way around(on my MKIV) w/ 275-40-17s

Carl Byck 03-28-04 10:52 PM

BTW my 16x12 rims will be here Tuesday, the more I look at my car, the more I think I am going to widen the Tripoint Widebody kit to allow 24.5x13x16(15" wide overall) slicks all the way around. I need about another inch on each side, front, and rear.

Silkworm 03-28-04 11:34 PM

I tried getting a set of CCWs in 15x7 but the owner of that business told me that we was sticking wth 16 and up..
