Track-only FD: NO Thermostat? Does FD have bypass port?

Sup guys,

I've been tracking FC's for a long minute, and now cutting my teeth on an FD.

Running stock ports, emissions delete, Apexi PowerFC, ID2000's, Fuelab FPR, GSP 7081 Turbo, Greddy FMIC, Big Oil Cooler, Coolant/WaterWetter, etc., etc.

QUESTION:

Is the FD cooling system a bypass-system like the FC? Is there a bypass port underneath the Thermostat that needs to be blocked off like the FC when you run no thermostat?

Cruising temps right now is 88*C/190*F, and I'd like to try and get it down to 70*C/160*F like on my FC.

This is a Yes or No question. NOT a "lecture me on why I need to run a thermostat" thread, pretty please. :)

The answer is yes.

I won't lecture you on why you should run a thermostat but I will say 190 is a good water temp and 160 is way too cold. I'll also say, if you can keep even an NA rotary at 160, you're not running it very hard.

touche !.. yes indeed is bypass like FC.. infact the FD thermostat and its rubber ring is the same part used in the series five FC with the 3 bolt plastic thermoneck

the old days MFR water pump housings where simply welded up bypass hole and no thermostat
and i know from experience the 12a- FC water pump housings just required a tap and a pipe bung

160 is only a issue if your fuel has a issue with it otherwise 160* is just fine. I been running 70*c tstats for years without a hiccup.

"Track-only FD"

If that is the case, think about selling the FMIC (if that is what it is) and going V-Mount. Much better water cooling.

+1 FMIC are a terrible idea for any track rat, turbo rx7
