Hey there Ice, whats up?
No the surge tank will have to be removed and as Andy said, it will add about 60lbs of fuel. 10 X 6 = 60. Put me about 2660.

Andy, I might just do ASP. I would need new rear wheels, which is not that big. Yes I have to change back to the butt slow 4.1 gears, I bet you have some you might want to get rid of. I just put in another turbo that is brand new. Stock held better for me than aftermarket. So I purchased a brand new, never been on a car before turbo. I planned on getting a mazda remain over the winter.

Ice as for fuel, fuel is open. I can run whatever injector size I want. Yes I will have to get a much larger pump as you know what was happening earlier this year.

Other than a couple of odds and ends to complete the switch I think it would be ok. AC is open for removal which I have done. 2 Oil coolers from R1 now I have 1 is ok. Still have all the stock stuff I need. No mods have been done to the tank because of the surge tank. Motor is mazda remain with brand new turbos, and PFC with AVCR along side. I still have the stock hood and fenders.

I do agree that the 285 will be a better rear to help with gearing. Flares will have to stay. Nothing else I can think of that I need to change. Nothing else to pull off no fancy suspension that needs to be replaced.

Andy, what are you going to do for shocks next year? Are you going to upgrade? If so I might know someone to take your current ones off your hands for the right price.

Carbon fiber hatches aren't legal for ASP are they? What about SM2? I know how to lose some weight, ditch the big wing or at least go with a carbon fiber one, put Kari in the driver's seat. She only weighs 100lbs. She don't care whether shes in ASPL or SM2L its either Christine Berry or Angela Moffet or Andy's wife. At least Kari is the up and coming pro solo Queen now she can't wait for Atwater and Wendover after 10 under .510 lights at the last pro and perfect launches. But can she do it in a high HP RX-7?

I think I have 4 sets of 4.1 ring an pinions lying around, and some cases if you need them. PM me with an offer.

It's the odds and ends I'd be most worried about. I know I've removed alot of little things under the unrestricted areas of SM rules, and I may not remember everything that needs to go back on. For instance, your front end needs to go back to stock, with every little plastic piece, etc.

Nice thing about 285's is that you can get the car very low. However, at some point the geometry get's pretty crappy and you can't fix that in SP rules.

Sorry Allan, I will stick with the Penske's I have. I'm spending money on other things and that won't leave room for shock upgrades. Besides, my old double adjustable cannisters actually have more range than the new cannisters from Penske.

Always keeping the good stuff for yourself. Actually Andy yes some of the stuff has to go back but the front nose I believe is ok. I may be wrong, so I will call Doug Gill on Monday. I cannot find it in the current rules and you know what that means. I hit a deer years ago, and ran that bumper originally in ASP and had both Gary Thomason and Grady say it was fine. However I will check. As a whole, the stock front is about the same weight as my current setup, however I like my current set up. If I had to go to stock then yes that may be expensive to replace all that little stuff. Well I will hope that it will be ok. However you also know the guys in ASP, who do you think would Protest me? They all know that if I did beat them it certainly was not because of a front end.

Other than some of the major things, everything else if fine. Again as far as I can see is Hood, Fenders, Fuel Surge Tank, Gears in the rear I should be ok. I have never gone to bracing as I will have a new motor, I have brand new turbos. I may change the injectors from the stock but that is ok. Engine management is ok. I have already removed my traction control.

My problem with the 285's is my back will be lower and I have the car set up to work with the 315's. However I should be able to work that out prior to next year.

Oh crap, I will also have to put my antenna back! Bugger my carbon fiber hatch and lexan will also have to go.

Kidding aside I still have everything else I need. Windown and motors, heater etc. All the stuff is still there. And we know how important a defrost is in Topeka during a September rain shower.

ASP Suspension question

What is the groups opinion on how this SP rule wording relates to the use of aftermarket trailing arms that would use spherical bearings...

"C. Suspension bushings may be replaced with bushings of any
materials (except metal) as long as they fit in the original location."

It would seem that this would preclude the use of most aftermarket trailing arms and, if I'm not mistaken, result in some tire clearance issues with stock trailing arms (using 285/30's or larger). Please correct me if I'm wrong (since I really want to run ASP insteac of SM2).

Aftermarket trailing arms of any type aren't legal. You could however use any non-metal bushing you like in the stock trailing arm.
