Rx7 Holds Unlimited Rwd Record At Buttonwillow
5 Attachment(s)
Just to let everyone know Twins Turbo RX7 driven by Jack Mardikian ran a 1.48.3 and came in second overall only to be beaten by the HKS carbon EVO. This was at the super street time attack finals. Here are a few pic's. Eric from Twins Turbo will fill in the details for everyone later.

great work, guys. glad to see you're still doing your thing - and not only JZA80s, too. :)
|
Yes, I've seen this FD at a lot of NASA events this year. When it's up and running well it's really fast. Nice crew too.

|
Damn that engine bay is no nonsense just the way I like it. Great car and good luck next year.

rx7
Next time I remember to bring earpluggs!!!
|
congrats!

How much does the car weigh? Are you really using Tokicos? The car looks quick even if starts looking a little unstuck later in the lap (are those A compound Hoosiers)?

I don't know if you can read the sticker we put on the bumper " Headache courtesy of Twins Turbo Motorsports"...it reads true.
http://i7.tinypic.com/8gf4l5j.jpg By far the loudest car we have ever built..one of the baddest also.. and again thanks for the comments, and Diabolical not to bad for our first Rotary hu' !! Eric. Twins Turbo |
Nicely done. For a second there I thought it was an updated rotaryracing and reliablility car...well maybe it is :) Just saw Jack was driving it.
Any comments on how well the chassis is compared to other cars your raced in similar configurations? Tim |

Def not an updated RRR car..we took her down to the white meat. we started with a block. every nut and bolt, weld, wire, custom coolers, plumbing, fabricate everything, dyno ect..everything is Twins Turbo now. Not that i'm proud of her, LOL..

Congrats Eric with the second place. Great looking FD, I can see you have put a lot of time and work in that car. Best of luck

Looks like top-notch work. I'm especially impressed by the wiring, labeling of connectors and hoses, and well-planned ducting.
By the way, there's a photo on the website that seems to be a vacuum distribution manifold; is that for packaging or is there a performance benefit to tapping all the vacuum lines into the same place? -s- PS, I was told that a fast RX-7 caught fire at the time attack last week. I hope it wasn't this one. |

we also use the RBF600 brake fluid. Scotty, as for the vacuum block we like to have everything where we can get at it in case of a problem. we also had a big problem with all of the vacuum ports on the intake manifold. nothing but headaches waiting to happen. we try to eliminate all "hoses" and use A/N fittings. the details are what will take you out on race day. Thanks for the comments guys. and jack drives the wheels off that car..i don't want to start any s**t but its not that easy to do..its easy to comment on driving style, the lap record was on this lap..fast is fast period.... Eric |

thanks. what motul oil do you recommend for street and autoX use with lightly modified RX7? |
Great Drive
Driving style is just that a style, there is no real right way on the limit. For example look at some old in-car or out of car video of Nigel Mansell. He squared off almost every corner and wrestled the car down to the apex. Schumacher is exactly the opposite. He almost finesses the car to the apex and wrestles it out.
I have been racing cars since 1982 and have done just what Jack is doing many, many times. I think that he is trying to preload the outside tire on initial corner entry and feeling for the slip angle before he goes full into the corner. I do this many times when the track is dusty or dirty or I am unsure as to how much grip I have and I still must go fast (like qualifying on a dirty street course on Friday). When using R compound street tires, slip angles are very important as it is easy to cook the outside front tire when you have a corner entry push or understeer, like I think this car has. TONS of power over steer though, LOL. From my point of view, Jack is basically dealing with a slight push, unsure of the level of grip and the need to go really really freakin fast and minimize the chance of balling up the car. I think he did a great job, though slightly unorthidox on the corner entry steering input. I say more power to him. Way to go and I am stunned at how fast he went on street legal tires. WOW!!!! You guys are right. That is why they call it "driving style"
-M |
I've seen the car at SevenStock a number of times. Very well put together car.
What does it weigh wet without driver? And with driver? Congrats on the fast lap times. The driver has skills for sure. |

And GNX7, I wish you would have had the chance to see the car at seven stock. we didn't have the time to bring her this year. If you thought that the car was well put together when you saw it last, i would REALLY like to see what you think of her since we rebuilt it. there is not a thing left over from what you saw.. Eric |
Maybe I missed it, could you mention what turbo that is?
Thanks BigAl... |
Would you mind letting me know what the specs on your tires and CCW's are?
