ROLEX cup rx8 info
I was going to go on rx8 forum, but Im too lazy to create an account for one question.
I was wondering the specs on the rolex cup rx8's? Weight power mods suspension, brakes? Im watching it right now on speedvision, and its doing very well. |
Why not just hit up speedsource's wedsite? they would have the specs on the RX8 there :)

Im wondering the specs for this rolex race. The rx8 is racing porsche gt3's. There is a huge hp difference, but the rx8 is doing really well. Im doubting if it really jsut has 238hp

+1 Nothing Renesis about it. The rotary they were running in the ALMS LMP2 car was a side port Renesis. The GA GT cars use a p-port. |

He told us exactly what the Speedsource engine is built from. No secrets. Awesome. Too bad there are people out there that are too chicken to show off their work. The Speedsource 3 rotor uses Racing Beat peripheral port housings. The first engine used Mazda factory Peripheral port housings. They actually found that although the Mazda housings made slightly more ultimate top end horsepower, it was down on power to the RB housings almost everywhere else. They understand that it's the average power through the powerband that matters and not the ultimate peak. As a result of their testing they decided to settle on the RB housings. It has S5 n/a 9.7:1 compression rotors. 13G peripheral port end and intermediate housings. The rest is pretty standard. Their engine makes less peak horsepower than the Courage did because of the longer intake runners. It wasn't intended to be revved as high. As a result it does have more average torque than the Courage did. Motec controls it all. The air filter is on top of the engine. The airbox is shielded with insulating materials. It looks like the Lunar Lander. It draws in air from the high pressure zone at the base of the windshield using the cowl induction design. The car itself is a complete tube frame purpose built race car. The strange part is the engine and transmission. The engine as we all know is a 3 rotor. It is mounted so far back that it is nearly next to the driver. Much farther back than the engine mounts in a street car and this one has 3 rotors. The transmission is in the rear of the car. It is a modified Porsche transaxle. The clutch is still attached to the engine but it ties in to a driveshaft much like the Corvettes do which then enters into the transmission at the rear. This setup keeps perfect weight distribution through the car. There was a big long slideshow about the design of the car and how it was built back at Sevenstock. You'd really be impressed if you saw the lengths they went through to build it. Wonderful piece of work and definitely a car and team to respect. Here's the BK engine from last year. I've got pictures of the Speedsource engine bay somewhere. I'll try to find them. |

Well I stand corrected on the LMP car. I do distinctly remember seeing photos of that car with a side exhaust engine in it. Was the p-port engine something that came along during the development after beginning the first year with a side port engine?

The Courage engine was always a peripheral port. Many were confused because it was called a Renesis and then on top of that a CAD drawn 3 rotor side port engine was circulated around that was assumed was the new engine when the whole time it was a 13G. Here's that picture.

Yeah. I swear I saw a real pic of that engine in the car. I distinctly remember the header. Easily distinguished between the p-port and side port exhaust header. Oh well. I remember a lot of stuff everyone else said never happened. Part of getting old I guess. :D |
The orange #63 3 rotor peripheral (not Renesis) port RX-8 was at the Mitty race at Road Atlanta last weekend, in my IMSA car run group (but thankfully not in my 2 rotor GTU class.) He blew by my 2 rotor PP really fast; 50% more rotors = 50% more horsepower.

If that were the case then I could build a 600hp 3-rotor based on what I've done with a 2-rotor PP. :lol: But then again a friend of mines is making over 550rwhp with his 3-rotor. I guess that qualifies him over 600hp at the flywheel. |
I went out to Laguna on saturday. The Speed Source cars are awesome. They sound incredible. I'll try to post some pics tonight
