Open Track Sunday after Seven Stock @ Button Willow Raceway

NASA is holding a race weekend October 8-9 at Button Willow Raceway in Button Willow. It is about 1.5 hours from the SS8 activities. I will be running my Road Race car there on Sunday, and would encourage fellow Rotorheads to join me. The event features an HPDE(High Performance Driving Event), for all skill levels, including beginers who wish to have an instructor. In addition there will be a wide variety of race venues on this day. Cost is generally 149.00 for four 20 minute sessions. To sign up, you will need to join NASA(20.00 IIRC), and with your membership, you will recieve a one year membership to Grassroots Motorsports. Then, all you need is a vehical in good mechanical condition, and a helmet Snell 95 or later. Please read the section on HPDE for further instructions on teching your car, and other regulations.
As an added bonus, Ryan Scott (Boosted7) is planning to do a photoshoot for RX Tuner Magazine on that day. I will post all the links, and you can contact NASA directly if you wish to sign up for this event. Do not wait too long, as the event will likely fill up early. That said, if you do decide late, give them a call, as NASA can usually squeeze you in. If you have general questions, you can post them here, or you can call me at 707-696-2705. I will post a link to this thread in the west section, but please spread the word. Let's see if we can get a serious representation of Rotaries at this great event. Thanks, Carl Byck

Count me IN !!. My FC need test it out too.... :)

Carl Byck 08-25-05 11:38 PM

Sweet, I thought you'ld be there. This should be a great time. I'll be installing a second new clutch next week, the first one did not hold.

NasaPro7 08-25-05 11:42 PM

I'll be at Sears Point that weekend... NASA Norcal

I was going to tow back from Irvine, but BW is only ~2 hours vs 7 for Infineon. Carl

DriveFast7 08-26-05 12:13 PM

Not a bad ideaer. I might take the REPU up there in beginner class for kicks. a LOT easier than fixing the rx7 and towing up.

gnx7 08-26-05 12:19 PM

I'll most likely hit up the Buttonwillow event on Sunday.

Carl Byck 08-26-05 01:17 PM

Nice, This could turn out to be quite the "after party" Ryan's taking pics is just icing on the cake. Spread the word to your other track feind freinds. I am going to give the sothern regional director a call, and see if there are any "accomadations" they can make for our group. Perhaps if the locals know a group from SS8 will be there, we can get even more rotary participation.
Brad, do group 2, instruction when you want it, not when you don't. Group 1 is too slow...
Do not wait to sign up if you know you woill be going, hate to see it fill up. I will post on NASA forums as well.
Mark, you should get your check today. Will you be at T'hill in OCT, and Nov.? I am tinking of running the RX in the 25 hour at low boost. Maybe just off and on for the fun/track time. Interested? I would also put the Tripoint nose on instead of my one off nose...

Fish 08-26-05 01:19 PM

Anyone fancy taking me for a ride?

I am coming over for SS8, so any other events are good.

Coming from the UK... How about a ride in a 500rwhp Widebody FC on slicks ;) I will give you a ride for sure. You would need to get to the track though. I will do a map blast so we know how far it actually is. Carl

Carl Byck 08-26-05 01:46 PM

Here is a link to my car. Double click on each image. http://www.teamfc3s.org/forum/member...tos&car_id=562

RX-Heven 08-26-05 04:51 PM

I wish I could make it to drive but I am dynoing Sunday morning with Steve. I will stop by on the way home for sure though as it is on the way for me.

How about 13B PP race car ?? along as you are under 200LB and can fit into my custom make tiny ass passanger seat ;)

Ni5mo180SX 08-26-05 09:38 PM

I wanna go for the magazine coverage ;)

But how to transport the FC up there.........

Good point, I run Sparco REV seats, if you are over ~200 you will never fit.

Nismo, rent a trailer from Uhaul, or even a truck, and trailer. Why can't you just drive?

Ni5mo180SX 08-26-05 10:29 PM

My car will spontaneously combust driving that far haha.

But really, the LA freeways are trash and I dont wanna ruin my diffuser or exhaust on the haul there like last time. Any ideas on cost of a trailer from Uhaul? Ive been meaning to contact them but havent had the time recently.

Carl Byck 08-26-05 11:11 PM

Trailer is ~50/day

Fish 08-27-05 02:29 PM

Carl/Diyman25, thanks for the offers. I will be hiring a car to get me around whist I am in the US.

I'm a little over 11 stone, so should fit in both seats. Now I wonder what my travel insurance will say about it.

Thanks
Fish

Ni5mo180SX 08-27-05 04:09 PM

NASA 1yr membership=$40

Thanks for the update, Grassroots Motorsports subscription= 20.00, and you can get Koniig wheels for 50.00-75.00 each (any style) with membership. Not that you would want them, but hey:D Anyway, still a great deal, wheel to wheel for 4- 20 minute sessions for 150.00 vs AX or any other motorsport. But I'm not trying to sell memberships here, just trying to get some Rotaries to go to the track for fun, and a nice professional photoshoot. For me, I race in Nor Cal, so being down for SS8, and then racing at a So Cal track is an added bonus. Carl

Gotta ask, since you're sharing the local flavor, how much is a stone in lbs?

Fish 08-28-05 11:05 AM

Carl, its about 14lbs per stone. I'm coming in at about 160-170lbs.

What time will you arrive? What does your car look like?

NasaPro7 08-31-05 12:28 AM

I'm now on the fence; a friend might be out from MI on a business trip and running the HPDE, and it woudl be handy to shake own our lighting system on the endurance car...

If I were closer, I'd come over and shove you off the fence(gently) ;)

tims 08-31-05 06:04 PM

I will be at the track friday after about 8pm to drop off the car and unload the truck. Pictures of the car are at my website. It is a white second gen with and AWR body #47. We are running the enduro only so stop by the paddock area.

NasaPro7 09-01-05 11:53 PM

thanks Carl, (I think ;))

Jsut got bad news today... Tom at 7's wants to talk about "rescheduling" my cage install and other associated work.
It was supposed to be ready for pick up 8/26.. now if a great time to talk about rescheduling....
It's probably going over to TCDesigns in fremont; I need it done so I can test for the 25.

Marcus

Carl Byck 09-02-05 12:33 AM

There is a Nov. 10 date, and end of Nov. as well. Tell Tom NO>>> The squeeky wheel ;) Johnny Franklins in Santa Rosa does nice cages for a fair price as well.

NasaPro7 09-08-05 12:02 AM

Yep, Johnny Franklin's did my last cage. IMHO Tom's are better a little better built, but the other fators are I need a bunch more done to the car (wiring harness, seat, net, belts, windshield, NASA logbook and annual tech, etc) and Tom supports us in Cal Club and the Pro7 series.

Marcus

NasaPro7 09-08-05 12:04 AM

Oh yeah, depending on scheduling, I'm probably in, for november 10th.

Great, hope you can make it. My car was reclassed to TTU/SU from TTA. I know it is not officially racing according to NASA, but my group is running in the low 1:50s at Sears, and some sub 2 minute times at T'Hill. We are wheel to wheel, just absolutely no contact in our group. We have a 25+ car field this weekend.

NasaPro7 09-08-05 09:48 PM

You are going to Thill this weekend? I'll be there, crewing for my brother ( who is racing my car- his birthday present from me) come on by and say hi

Marcus

Carl Byck 09-08-05 10:45 PM

Will do, I'll be with the TT'ers

1984se 10-10-05 10:24 AM

WOW. That was fun. Nice meeting you Carl.

Sorry I was so busy, It was fun, but tough to drive on a flat track with no clues as to where to turn but a 6" high black pylon LOL. I was basicly following the TT'ers, going on faith that they were on line. I did not even know where the pit entry was until the second session. I had a minor mechanical every session, so it was hard to talk. I wanted to ride with Zubere(sp?), but did not get a chance.

Funkspectrum 10-10-05 07:50 PM

didja beat the supra? :D

Never got to run with him, we were in differnt groups. His times were better than mine, 2:00 Supra 2:05 me. I had many minor issues, mainly I had never been on this track before, it is flat with no landmarks, coming up on two 8" black pylons at 120+, and not knowing if I was going to turn right, or left was a bit of a problem:D There were two EVO VIIIs that I allways beat at Thunderhill, they were running 1:58-1:59(so they were two seconds faster than him), so I believe I would beat him at Sears, or T'hill. On his home track I didn't stand a chance having never been there before, but it was fun trying. Maybe I can get him to come up here...

Wish I had been able to make it but I was fresh out of tires and brakes from an event the weekend before.

Wow... are these times the FULL track clockwise including the Star Mazda turn? If so you and the NASA guys are FAST!

The best I've been able to manage is around a 2:10

Me so slow...

Carl Byck 10-12-05 02:01 PM

John, I think we turned at the first right off the back straight, but I could be wrong. Shit, when I had some problems with my car, I could not even find the pit road LOL.

John Magnuson 10-12-05 03:34 PM

Oh ok... if you took the cutout before star mazda then I feel a little better about my times!

Yes, Buttonwillow takes a little while to learn. You'll like it better next time!

Awesome! Nice pictures! haha It wouldve been nice to meet you and speak more with you in person but the mood seemed really apprehensive. Who was the girl in the blue NA S4 2nd gen? I wanted to briefly tell her nice driving but she was in and out of the driver meets.

Rotarys made a good turn out!

Yea those are the pictures from TwinTurboTeddy, he was taking pics of his friend in an Evo. Your car is in alot of them.

Dont know who the girl in the 2nd gen was but that was pretty cool, and yea, that was LOTS of fun was was that weekend your first time?

I got cut short on the last session because I had like 1.5-2 gals of gas left and when I would go thru the sweeper the gas would go to the other side and the fuel pump wouldnt pick it up. But oh well. For that one day I had a blast !

See you again next time.

Ah, do you happen to have any of Teddys contact info that you could send via PM? I know he had a bunch of pictures of my FC i was waiting on. Or if you could relay my email (Jinn444@aol.com) to him id really really apreciate it.

That was my 1st time with NASA and running full course length and 2nd time at Button Willow, how about yourself? I started in HDPE 3 but due to brake problems which kind of haunted me for the rest of the day, I dropped to HDPE2. Yea hopefully see you again soon. I'll be hitting the local SCCA autocrosses more often.
