Boy, that was an eclectic group of cars.. all kinds of machines.
Also noticed the sanctioning body does not mandate head/neck restraints after seeing the RX7 driver get out of his car.

Also,you must have had a great setup and driving to compete with essentially mechanical grip vs. aero for most of the other cars.

A lot of the cars were new and not optimized for the track, which had some bumpy parts. The 997 Porsche was the worst experiencing extreme pogo-ing and bottoming. My shocks were too stiff and some footage shows the inside tire completely off the ground. The #11 black monte carlo had oversteer. The CAT stock car was near perfect in set up ( also a pro driver) and the Derhaag vette was uncatchable in the corners. He was 3 seconds a lap faster than the rest of the cars, with an older driver. I am bringing gt brembos this year, along with 2 huge wings, one of them off a 962 GTP porsche! Race is July 24. There was an Ultima GTR in the pre race which was equiped with a v 12 BMW engine, very fast in the corners but not as fast as us in the straights, but about the same lap time . the owner was a Mclaren F1 fan!

Our rx7 is still street legal, with unibody and stock wiring harness!!

Disclaimer to start with. I am a friend of Tony Morris JR so I know a bit more than most what was happening in the CAT car and I am biased as I think he is a pretty decent shoe.

Wouter, your RX7 is a great car and makes a ton of power. I can see from the video you were suffering from some pretty aggressive power on oversteer. It is too bad that the car just isn't consistent enough in feedback for you too take full control of the beast. A tub car, no matter how well built, can never be as consistent and predictable as a tube chassis car. You did a great job and hats off to you. If I ever get back out west to run the Brown Bros. Cobra again, I will make sure I come over to say hello.

Regarding the CAT car, it was not perfectly set up. It was running a GM Crate motor (about 365 hp) and laying flat at about 5600 rpm as it went into valve float. The box had a huge drop off between second and third and it let everybody pull Tony on the straights, especially on restarts. You can see this on the second restart where he drops back to 5th, I think, but claws his way back. The car weighs over 2,800 lbs so it was using up the tires pretty well and by the end of the race the tires were hooped. Tony said that he had nothing left for Isley in the Vette and was okay with second.

Tony is not a Pro Driver, just very experienced. He would love to make a living racing and a number of people have struggled to even race in PRO level series in Canada (like myself), but up here it is mostly on your own coin. He is just very talented and I love co-driving with him when we get a chance to do it.

Great news on the upgrades to your car. After watching the video, I would really look into spending the time getting your shocks dialed in. On my RX7 I have Koni race valved struts and the car handles well. On my Cougar, I have Dynamic 3 ways and there is honestly no comparison. Mosport is bumpy in the RX7 and it bobs and weaves pretty good over the bumps. In the Cougar, Mosport is a billiard table and all I have to think about is car placement. Big wings will slow down the straights, great for Mission, but slow you down a lot on long straights. Not so good for Seattle, Edmonton and Portland.

Look into shocks, best bang for the buck in high HP race cars.

Thanks for the compliments. In regards to tony i used the term "pro" as a compliment, as he has the skills to compete succesfully at any level of motorsports.
Pro is a loose term in racing anyways. Even in Champcar and especially in rolex and alms sportcar there are so called pro drivers who are there because they either own the team or pay to be there. And their talent is not equal to the size of their cheques.
Tony is planning a 2nd invitational GT race at mission raceway Sept 19, you should come out as it was a great success last year, and its all for charity.

And what class is this? WOuld you say that corvett and porche had more suspension/chassi than your FD?

cooling system consists of a fd waterpump, ron davis ford big racing rad in a v mount with the ic horizontal with the road,fully ducted, two monster fluidine oil coolers, and the dry sump also aids in oil cooling. this set up works well and temps are 90 celsius . The only problem is over 7500 rpm the water pump will cavitate. i only had heating trouble with a front mount ic blocking the rad.

Have you thought about a different water pump such as Rick Engman's modified wp or an electric wp to try and decrease cavitation?
