ITS caster, toe, camber...your thoughts
So, just want to see what other guys are running. Mine are stock specs with the exception of camber, -3.5* in the front and -1* in the rear....what do you folks perfer.
I am on hoosiers as well, '90 ITS. Ludwig...any thoughts? |
You'll need to play with the settings and monitor your results with a tire pyrometer. You're in the ballpark. Something around -3 - 3.5 in front, -1 - 2 in the back. All the caster you can get while making them even. I always ran 1/8" total toe out in front and 0 toe in the rear. When I told Mike at ISC how the car was set up as far as alignment and shock/spring package he asked "How do you drive that thing?" Quite well actually, but your results may vary. :)
Make use of the tire probe. As you begin to use more of the tire you'll probably find that you'll need more camber to maintain even temps. Some tracks require different setups too. |
ours was closer to zero toe, but other wise about the same....

max caster huh? Would you reccomend that for "baseline"?
|
actually paulie and i were talking about this the other night, we're thinking we had the car too low, and the geometry would have been better with a higher ride height.
any thoughts on that? |
Think we got 8* caster. It's a poor mans source of camber gain in turns. With the kingpin layed back the more you turn the wheel the more camber gain there is.
I think you're right on the ride height. I had some big problems when lowering the car too much. The rear was very funny about ride height. You can get it low enough to bottom the trailing arms on the tub. When you do that everything goes to hell. Also, in the front you'll run into bump steer problems when going seriously low. As it is the IT rules limit you to a specific ride height. Was it 5" at the rocker? That's really close to as low as you want to go. Maybe too low. |

The 2007 GCR sets minimum ride height as 5" to the bottom of the rocker panel (not including the welded seam). This is with driver out.
