I Finally DID IT, BOUGHT The Dream Car
Here's the write and vid from the Porsche forum:
After many years of entertaining the idea of getting my dream car I went all out and found a terrific Green RS that most everyone is familiar with. The Infamous Mikymu RS. Mike made the buying experience exceptionally easy and gave me a terrific deal to boot. The car arrived on Valentines day and the 1st thing my wife says to me when I arrive home is "so you get an RS and I get a potted plant" LOL. I also bought her a yummy fruit tart which surprisingly she was nice enough to share. After just a short cruise around town the following day I'm like I have to get this beast on track PRONTO. I'm signed up for BMW in about 2 weeks but that's just not soon enough so I check the weather and things look good for NASA the weekend following valentines day so BOOM I head down to VIR towing the FD and my honey (Morgen) will come down later with the baby (erin our 9 year old that we will always call the baby) in the RS. I arrive at about 10 and take the FD on track and impatiently wait for Morgen to arrive but she doesn't get there until after my last session so no dice trying out "Fiona" which is my wifes nick name for the RS which obviously named after Shrek's wife (Morgen names all my cars). It's a pretty ruff name for such a lovely machine but hey it fits, she's big and green. Saturday morning arrives and things are hectic so I ask Morgen to put 24 psi in the tires and read the manual to figure out how to turn off traction control and set the susp etc.. for track use. After the instructor meeting I rush back to the car that my wonderful wife has prepped, warmed up and has ready roll but I forget to install the camera so I rush back to the truck install it and head to pit out. Once I break through the 1st bit of traffic and start getting up to speed I quickly realize that Fiona's a real handful in the corners and it literally feels like I'm driving in the wet however shifting into fifth down the straights is SOOOO intoxicating it's almost as fun as nailing a corner and the BRAKES........DAMN!!!! Seriously the brakes are soooo smooth, the pedal feels sooo good and trail braking is unbelievably nice. I come back in sweating bullets and glad I stayed shiny side up. I end up driving the FD the rest of Saturday because I was hoping to Time Trial it on Sunday. Sunday arrives and they won't let me sign up for TT because there are too many already signed up but it's cold and the FD loves some cold weather so I figure I'll run the 1st session in the FD. Get the Porsche out again and I'm smoother with shifting and getting more comfortable but I still can't seem to balance the corners. Next session a student ask if he can ride while I'm waiting in the pits and I'm like sure because now I'll be able to share the most frightening experience of my life with someone else LOL. Again feeling more confident and really working hard to keep her from spinning through each corner I start to notice the flaggers are reaching for the yellow each time as I approach several corners that are giving me problems but fortunately they never had to wave it. After that wild ride I finally decide to check the rear tires but I'm skeptic because the fronts looked good but thankfully the rear tires are as bald as Curly Neal so that explains the terrific turn in followed by Fiona shaking her sexy ass. Sadly I have no vid from Sunday because my wife went gallivanting about town to keep Erin occupied, she did however ask me several times if I needed anything in the truck prior to leaving but I'm quite the space cadet Here's my 1st time out vid from Saturday. I was in hurry with camera install so the position sucks and I didn't tighten it enough so it's leaning a bit hehe. Again I was having a hard time because of the severely worn rear 710s well that's my story and I'm sticking to it I'll upload another vid later from this session that was an open lap that's a 2.12 FLAT OUT but I'm calling it a 2.1199 to keep my spirits up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxuCM4pIl10 |
So very jealous.. post some pictures up ASAP!
|
Get some back tires, and I'll see you next month :-)
p.s., I think you'll finally be able to win your argument with a certain "straw man" by enacting the impossible back to back comparison scenario. |

Congrats on the purchase... shes a beauty.. I wish I could be able to one day say I bought my dream car but unfornately im a slut when it comes to cars and my "dream car" changes every year lol.
Comparing your lap times in the future to the FD would be interesting.. Keep us posted. |
That is one sexy ass car. Ive always been into Porsche's and the GT3 RS is definitely one if my favorites. Congrats on the buy and keep us posted with more videos when you get some new rubber.

I think with the RS being mostly stock the times will be very similar once I learn to drive it but the FD will be much easier to make faster. I run low boost and could easily just up the boost and get another second. Also it hasn't been aligned properly, could use a front splitter and a 1/2 inch drop and corner weight and probably get another second. The RS is pretty well setup (I THINK) it just needs some tires.

Soooo jealous, such an awesome car.
I currently work for a shop where we maintain Porsche street/track cars and they an absolute joy to work on. |
Nice car Fritz! I have to admit, I figured I'd be picking up a Porsche before you. ;) Looking forward to hearing your comments as you get the tires and other bits sorted out.
|
You guys can't imagine how much I'm looking forward to getting some fresh rubber under this thing along with a nice sunny day at the track. I may not sleep until that happens :D
|
Nice ride! If mine would have been an RS I am sure I would still be a porsche owner. Mine had the looks just not the power.
|
that looks like way to much fun. u r eating everyone up. i track my bike. have yet to bring a car out.

I find this comment a bit odd.. Not saying you are wrong, but it doesnt seem quite right that a $120k or whatever, top of the like track-focused 911 would need suspension/aero alterations to be great on the track.

I think the new 997.2 RS has another 200lbs of down force and therefore it's much faster along with lots of other improvements however I won't do anything to the aero. |
My dream car was my FB, but I'm wierd.

Hi Fritz,
Very nice car! There are some wicked fast cars like that at the local PCA events. The only issue I see is that you're going to have to spend time on Rennlist mingling with those guys! Guy |

Peter, we better see you there! I think I ran approx 2.08 or 9 on Sunday with what may have been the worst tires I've ever driven on and that's saying something, who am I kidding I just remembered the one time I ran on circa 70s nylon hoosiers now those puppies will help you work on your slip angle lol |

I'm looking forward to a ride. Are you going to buy Hoosiers or run a slick?

I may not have a passenger seat installed but if I do I'd love to get you out there in it :icon_tup: |
Hey guys
VIR lists the Zone 2 event as March 18-20, but Zone 2 lists it as March 11-13. Either of you confirmed? |

Peter, we're both confirmed 18-20. Signup here: http://www.motorsportreg.com/
Fritz, I'll bring the extra seat out of the Lemons car. I wonder if a 993 seat mount will work in a 997? You may want to check w/ Bob Chick for scrubs. I heard that Bob Woodman is putting the squeeze on Bob Chick tho. |
