Gold vs Aluminum heat barrier

I'm looking to apply some heat barrier to the bottom of my LIM to mitigate heatsoak. The write up for gold seems to have more information than aluminum, but I'm looking for real world experiences.

Has anyone used either of these products? Thoughts?

I purchased some of that gold reflective film from pegasus racing, it seems to work well.

I use the silver stuff. I do not think it would wrap a LIM though, it's too thick and I just don't think it would work as far as conforming to all the curves and staying in place with the adhesive. I had thought about wrapping LIM and UIM in either silver or gold as well. If you get it to work I'd be interested to hear more.

I made an aluminum heat shield that sits in between the header and LIM and I covered the bottom of the aluminum shield with the silver stuff. It seems to work fine.

I apologize, I meant UIM, but I'd use the remainder on the LIM.

Turbo or N/A? Is it easily removable?

I used the aluminum stuff on my IC end tanks. The adhesive didn't work as well as I expected on all surfaces. It should work ok on the under (rough) part of the UIM. The adhesive doesn't stick well on smoothed surfaces (if you've polished your upper UIM).

The stuff Pegasus sells isn't the highest quality and isn't even real gold tape though it does work.

N/A streetport road race car. It can be removed but is not reusable. I've tried. The adhesive can be cleaned off with various chemicals. I would coat the intake before I tried to wrap it, too many curves and the stuff doesn't conform to different shapes well. Think of it like adhesive backed fiberglass cloth with a thin aluminum coating.

Read this http://www.engineceramics.com/coating_a_manifold.htm

Not sure if he is still around or he sold the business. I might give it a try next winter during the off-season.

I was asking more about the shield than the barrier tape, but since you're n/a there's not a whole lot you'd have to get to anyway. I'm looking in to coating too, but it's out of my budget for the time being.

It works well if you cut it up in smaller pieces to conform to curves.

The heavy aluminum insulation has been on my LIM for 2 years with no problem.

I also used aluminum tape to seal the edges.

Revisited this thread as a result of looking for info on gold vs aluminum tape.

The aluminum tape has been on my Intercooler, IC pipes, LIM and ABS Heat shield for 5 years now without much issue.

Just been looking to redo it in spots, as some of the bits on the IC pipes is starting to unravel.

After looking at the specs at DEI's website, there does not seem to be much incentive to switch to the gold foil.

The silver stuff is good up to 1200f, while the gold is good to 850f.
