Aftermarket fuel cell with stock sending unit questions?

I will be getting a aluminum fuel cell soon my question is i want the stock fuel level sending unit from my oem tank so i can still read my stock gauge cluster.

is this possible

No. You do not want to try and put a stock fuel sender into a racing fuel cell.

However, FuelSafe does sell a sender unit that will fit into their fuel cells. Their sender is designed to work with their gauge. I have one, and it is very handy on a race car.

The fuelsafe sender may or may not work with your stock gauge. You would just have to try it and see.

I had a setup that worked with the stock gauge using an ATL sender. You can order a sender with a particular resistance range to match the stock gauge. I forget which one it was, but you can easily measure it when you have the stock tank and sender out.

i need more info on this DIGDUG i want to do this, i already have a fuel cell but its a plastic one , i am getting the aluminum one for two reasons 1- i want to fill up from the gas door 2- my car is a daily driver i dont want to drive around with a 12g tank in my rear

so please any links or companies you know send me their way i want to use my stock gauge and in the future a autometer fuel level gauge

ATL sells fuel level probes and low-level warning switches. The factory fuel level sender is just a variable resistor, so by matching the resistance range (at full and empty) of the stock sender with an aftermarket sender in your fuel cell, you can use the stock gauge. Also, the factory low-level warning switch is a simple switched ground, so you can use one of their low-level switches to trigger the dash light if you want. You would just replace those stock components and splice into the factory wiring. You need to measure the resistance of the stock sender at full and empty and then call ATL to get a probe to match.

Oh and make sure you know what you're doing before you go monkey around with a fuel cell. Installing the probe definitely takes some work and can be dangerous.

thanks bro

yeah some people actually dont mind the tank inside but i dont and if i put it under its too close to the ground...plus it was a freeebie from my sponsors

Put an 11 gal ATL in the floor of the hatch. Fits between the spare tire well and the diff - in between frame rails. It still provides more clearance than the stock tank - and will keep you C of G lower.

Also, any competitive racing will require the cell to be bulkheaded from the pass compartment. Put it inside and you have a lot of fabbing to do...

Why not?
I'm using both the oem float sender and the low level warning light inside a modified surge tank in my ATL.
cheers
