5 point seat belt
2 Attachment(s)
I got my rx7 with a rollbar and a 5 point seatbelt harness and is there certain way the belt has to be bolted on the rollbar? as you can see in the pics, you see the type of harness and the type of rollbar

That seat isn't set up for 5 point. The shoulder harness will wrap around the horizontal bar. Read through the below, you will learn a lot about proper installation:

It is prefered to wrap the belts around the harness bar, rather than bolt them to it. I have no idea why someone would do it as shown in the picture.

i read the link SCCAITS put on and seems like it is set up correctly... if anybody knows how it's set up wrong just say so

Curious, Can you setup a harness with racing seats with NO roll bar at all? Or is the only way to attach the belts is at the bar?

While this is an extreme situation, it is a real scenario which can happen. The best idea is not to use a harness without a rollbar or rollcage. |
Disclaimer, I can't see those pics very well, it's hard to see how the bolts are installed in the shoulder harness mounts
That said, I've never seen a harness manufacturer claim that the only way the harnesses should be mounted is a wrap around the horizontal bar. My car the shoulder harnesses were mounted using bolts. Here's how mine looked before I sold it: http://home.comcast.net/~dtymazda/Pi...8Custom%29.JPG Seat looks fine, as long as the 5 point belt comes up through the bottom of the seat, not wrapped around the front of it. hard to tell from that pic where the 5th point is. Silkworm I don't know about that design... in a crash the seat back brace will be applying leverage to the end of those nice long bolts...
I don't know why people do anything other than wrap around the bar. All you're doing is adding more complication and more potential sources of failure. Also always make sure to double-back through your three bar adjusters. (I don't see it anywhere here but it's always good to remind people) I don't know how many cars I see with it wrong when I go to the track but it's a lot. I always point it out to people when I see it. |
