That'd be super cool to have the ability to haul both cars to the track!

You can buy AC units that have heaters on them as well. Not sure on the price difference. If you already have an AC unit installed, it should be as simple as unbolting the old one and bolting the new one in. Roof is already reinforced since the AC is already installed and the power is already ran. Another viable option IMO is to buy a ceramic heater(safe for indoors) from walmart or the like, plug it into your generator, and use it.

No idea on awnings.

Guys,
I have good early feedback on PFC 06 pads. These are a little more $$ than 01's, and are billed as having the bite of an 01, with the wear of a 97. I'd say the bite is right about there, maybe in between, but the wear so far is fantastic.

I ran a two day event on them in Oct., and have been driving around on the street since, and they've only worn 1mm. Pretty cool. 01/97's would have been noticeably thinner. These things looked new, I had to measure to see that they'd worn at all!

Hey guys, I posted this in the 1st gen section, but it applies to this section and thread as well. Any help y'all could offer would be much appreciated.

Brent Dalton 02-05-12 12:45 AM

Pete, are you running 06's on all 4 corners?

ptrhahn 02-05-12 07:41 AM

Brent, nope, PFC doesn't make anything in FD pad shapes anymore. I ran them with Hawk blue rears (I have the standard piston ST's front, RB rears).

I'm really surprised as well that, except for the dust and a little bit of squeal, they are actually decent street pads. If you were in a situation where it was tough to swap back and forth (and you had plenty of money), it would totally be doable to run full time.

Pete,
I'll give them a try and may put the 08s on the P car next. The heavy trackers on rennlist love the 08s.

06 Compound
06 compound pads are very similar to PFC 01 for both bite and torque, within 4% of those values. Excellent release and control with very low wear. Very low abraded disc wear with a “powdery type” transfer layer. 06 pads are an excellent alternative to other brands of endurance compounds but with much higher performance. Excellent for club racing type shapes as well in OE brake calipers where ABS is used.

06 Recommended Applications:
Endurance Sportscar and GT
NASCAR Short Track and Road Course Rear
NASCAR Speedway and Intermediate Rear
All Oval Track Race series Rear
SCCA Racing
Porsche/BMW Club Racing
Track Day and Driver Education events

08 compound
08 compound is one of PFC newest and have gained immediate favor in Endurance Sportscar, and GT racing due to its performance in applications where smooth initial bite is a must. 08 have a slight friction rise with temperature, excellent release and modulation characteristics, and very low abraded disc wear. In addition to its considerable performance, 08 wears the longest of all PFC pads and easily matches wear of the other competitors with much higher bite.

08 Recommended Applications:
24-hour Endurance Racing
Endurance Sportscar and GT
NASCAR Short Track and Road Course Rear
NASCAR Speedway and Intermediate Rear
All Oval Track Race series Rear
SCCA Racing
Porsche/BMW Club Racing
Track Day and Driver Education events

ptrhahn 02-06-12 10:02 AM

Excellent. The 08's may be even better/longer lasting. I'll check on the price vs. 06/01.

How's FSR VIR 3 day looking for your guys at the end of May? I think that may be one I can work in.

EDIT: Event is May 18-20.

ptrhahn 02-06-12 12:11 PM

Brent,
I almost always do that one. Is registration open yet?

Brent Dalton 02-06-12 12:16 PM

Not sure. Registration site is blocked here, I'll have to check later.

 Lets do it :icon_tup:

I think me and Pete have done this the last several years.

The Marque Madness event in June would also be a good one if they're running on the Grand course.

PS Reg will open mid feb for FSR

Plans for this year are to finally seam weld my bare FC chassis.
I just ordered the parts needed to run argon through my mig. And later today I'll order the material to make the rotisserie and the torsion test stand.
1. Weigh unmodified stripped chassis
2. build torsion stand and test unmodified chassis
3. build rotisserie and stitch weld entire chassis.
4. retest chassis to see how much weight/stiffness I added
5. (optional depending on $$) Pour high density expandable foam into all the body cavities for additional stiffness.
6. retest weight/stiffness changes

Oh and to finalize the front suspension. I need to decide the caster before I can build it out. Converting from struts to SLA.

Brekyrself 02-07-12 11:20 PM

Anyone have expierence with HPDE insurance coverage? I see Locktonaffinity and On Track Insurance as two options.

Most of the track's I'll be doing this summer have huge grass runoffs however the only one I may consider purchasing insurance for is Road America...

Thoughts?

Hell Yeah! If you guys are in, I'm in. I'm 99% sure this will line up with my timeline. I'm going to put out the word and see if we can get some other FD's to come out and have some fun. No 4Loko's this year though :D

Sounds like you are putting in the time to really square your chassis away. It'll be cool to see what your results are.

Sounds like a good plan. High speed track with alot of concrete barriers. I've never personally used the track day insurance, but have heard of Locktonaffinity. I also see an ad from www.hartlandinsurancegroup.com in grassroots motorsports you might want to check out. I'd check out the deductible on them. I've heard of some of them being around $5000. I think it's a good thing when you first start out, certain higher risk tracks(as you mentioned), or if you are only doing an HPDE or two a year(and I highly commmend those guys for getting their cars out and really enjoying them while CTA). Eventually though, it will add up significantly. Once hooked, most of us just end up getting a chassis we aren't emotionally attached to, install our safety mods, and come to terms with the realization that, God forbid, if something happens you can walk away from the car/get another chasis. Others will dial it back a notch and keep it at 8 or 9/10ths. Shit can still happen though that is out of your control. Aside from other drivers, mechanicals, etc... There are other things you can control but don't, like the red mist. I don't trust myself to only go 8 or 9/10ths most of the time unless I have a passenger.

Brent,
I'll be @ this one and Kathy (my fiance), will be there as a student as well. These are a good group of folks and I always have a good time with them. Let me know about a Grand Course event; I'm definitely down for that. Haven't run that course since Mazda Drivers 3 years ago.

Cheers!

Glad to hear it Dave. This event is looking better and better all the time. I had alot of fun at this event last year. I just don't know about some of the weirdo's running around there :D:

LMAO! Is this guy still around? I'll be running my first TT next weekend with NASA. Looks like I stand a decent chance of winning my class since I'm the ONLY one in TTS.

Dave:lol:

Simon Tibbett 02-10-12 09:11 AM

Track time is my only goal really. I sold my race car in November after the SCCA ARRC and am hoping to rent a few rides as I save up for another. If anyone has any enduro seats available or ANYTHING for decently prices in the SE specifically at Road Atlanta let me know!

gracer7-rx7 02-10-12 12:19 PM

Boy am I late to the party here. :)

My plans:

For the FD, de-tune it since I don't plan on tracking it anymore now that I'm racing Spec Miata. Probably get rid of the GC coilover setup, poly susp bushes and motor mounts.

For the Spec Miata, change fluids and clean the car. :D
I just had the SM dyno'ed. Started at 105 RWHP and it couldn't do better than 107 RWHP. My nearest competitor has 115 RWHP and I was trying to get around him all of last season but could never pull it off.

Driver goals:
- I need to build consistency lap to lap.
- Need to improve at least 3 seconds a lap so my times match that of a more experienced driver in my car. Once I improve, get the head rebuilt since leakdown test reveals 5% leaking through exhaust valves.
- Troubleshoot/learn to better use my DL1 better or switch to a simpler lap timer.
- Find a driver coach.

I started pulling my C6 apart today while waiting for the '87 RX7 TurboII to get a new motor... also while waiting my '90 Miata is with TC Design getting a basic PTE transformation...

1.8L? I'm curious what my 1.6L with drop-in, headers, exhaust, and cat delete will make. With 140Kmi on it, I'm betting somewhere between 90rwhp and 95rwhp. Should make for a good butt kicking in PTE versus the SMs when I have the FM Stage 2.5 suspension and not even real coilovers.

My plan for this year is to run a car, either car (or both!), and get at least my NASA license, if not my SCCA [reciprocal] license. Anything else will be gravy on top. I just hope the Miata isn't cursed like the RX7... because if it is... then maybe it's me and not the car. :-)

Brent Dalton 02-13-12 01:05 AM

 Hope you have a smooth, uneventful(from a mechanical/incident perspective) season.

Dave let us know how the TT goes. A wins a win. It'll be interesting to see how TTS shapes up in Mid-Atlantic this year. Wally sold his Vette, Justin seems to be focused on ST2, I think R Redpath is still around, Alex R. sold his GT3 but now has a E30 TTS car that is really fast, Fritz has some new tweaks for this season. Hopefully the numbers pick up once it warms up. I'd love to run in Feb or March. Maybe I'll be able to make October this year.

Lets do the FSR three day for sure.

I may Run with Dave this weekend. I'm having brake issues and should of kept that ST kit lol. New rotors and the brakes are still vibrating. I'm hoping it's just the pads are effed up from running them on bad rotors but I'll probably just buy complete new rotors, hats and pads or a whole kit and call it a day.

Considering Costas kit but have some concerns about the piston sizing and placement. If the pistons are different sizes I want to make sure the bigger (less pressure piston) in on the bottom side of the caliper. Does that sound right? I think you want it like that to help with tapering on big pads correct?

Planning on FSR and am going to start a seperate thread to try to drag some of the other guys out. Only thing that would keep me from it would be work, I'd say I'm 95% good to go though.

Bummer on the brakes, what did you put on? Another set of Brembo's?

I thought about Costa's brake kit for half a second as well. Just can't justify them when my current brakes work well. I'm also concerned about the balance. Not as big of a deal for me as I can change out master cylinders/adjust the balance bar to get bias where it needs to be, but that's just more work for something that ain't broke. It may not be that big of a deal.

I believe that is correct. You want the leading edge to have the larger piston to prevent taper.

Order up some A6's to go along with the new mods and the nice cold weather and go run a 2 flat dude!

LOL............it'll take more than A6s and 4.3 to get me down to a 2 flat but as usual I like what you're cookin up.

The car is feeling good with the new turbo but I need a dyno before the event or possibly it'll be on site and I can get the dyno done on Friday.

My cheap ass already has some Hankook c51s on the way. Hard to resist at 191 per tire. They're a little slower and about 3 lbs heavier but they last a long time and that price was too good to pass up.

Brent Dalton 02-13-12 12:08 PM

No doubt! That's stupid cheap for a R Compound. It only takes 1 time on A6's to get hooked. They'll make you feel like superman. I'd bet you are 2 seconds faster a lap at VIR on them. I def. understand getting tires to mess around on that last a long time. I've been stocking up on scrubs. Picked up 2 more sets of A6's for a grand shipped; one with 1 heat cycle(6 laps) and another with 3 heat cycles. I have the set that I ran at the UTCC last year as well. I think they have around 25ish heat cycles on them. Going to run them until they cord. Have a couple of new sets left over from winnings last year that'll will be the comp. tires.

Trying to do a little planning so I'm not running around like a chicken with my head cut off(per the usual). It IS what we seem to do best. We always seem to have it covered between the two of us. "Almost" Racing! It only take a minute to do when you only have a minute:D
