I'll be running SCCA Nationals out of the NE Division. That said, I will be starting the season at VIR in April at the double national. I finished 2nd in the division last season, shooting for a championship this year. Switched to the Hoosier radials last year at the Glen and picked up an immediate 5 seconds. The car seems much happier on the radials and I found them easy to drive. This will be my 5th season in the car and I'm finally getting close to really competitive times. This may have as much to do with the driver as with the car, although I have been steadily tweaking the set up.

Hey Fritz, the smaller tires are R Compound tires, the larger ones are not. Seems like it'd be a 6 of 1, half dozen of the other scenerio. You'd know better than I would. I do think the AD08's would be safer for street use as well as last significantly longer.
Agree with Fritz on the seat too. RZ is better than stock, but not up to par with a real race seat. You'll also have to modify the seat to properly install a 5 or 6 point harness... which could also compromise the integrity of the seat. |

Please get some vid from the VIR event :icon_tup: |
1990 FC limited prep as per SCCA rules. Koni adjustable shocks, adjustable f&r swaybars, streeport engine w/ 48 IDA carb, fiberglass fenders 1/4's hood and lexan windshield and rear hatch replacement. Piper cage, ultrshield seat, PBS dog box, 4.8 lsd rear. Of course the car is completely stripped of evrything not needed and has a custom aluminum dash with full gauges including dual egt's. I also use a Traqmate for data acquisition. Exhaust is a RB hear to a custom merge collector I made into an expansion chamber, 3" exhaust to a 4" Magnaflow in the rear. Making approximately 200rwhp and this past season I was pulling over 10K rpm's on the front straight at Pocono.

I'm thinking of running a couple of NASA Treat Lakes Region Events this year with either the RX7 or the Cougar. With the RX7 I am in PTC and with the Cougar I am in PTB. They seem to put on some fun events and it would be cool to run at the NASA Nationals. The Cougar is an SCCA STU car, but there is no class in SCCA for the RX7.
I am also going to run the RX7 in some CASC Time Attack events and a couple of enduro's up here in Canada. Trying to keep things low key this year. I just want to get on track racing and have some fun. Eric |

ALMS at VIR just announced, and on the Grand Course! This will be a cool event. So much going on with racing this time of year, NASA and SCCA Nationals, Pettit a month later, F1 in Nov. Going to have to prioritize and make some decisions. Have to get a work schedule first though. :D

I just signed up for the THSCC event April 7th and 8th at VIR on the North course. Fun group to drive with and they also run a time trial both days :icon_tup:
The N course is really fun and it's also great for people who have not been to VIR before because it's not as long as the full course so the laps go by fast and you can learn the track easier. I'm also driving with Zone 2 (PCA) in March at VIR which is 3 days on the full course :icon_tup: |
Back in full swing I see! It'll be interesting to see how the time trial goes as you are generally a good bit faster than everyone on the North Course.
|
USGP schedule is now posted as well:
http://www.formula1.com/races/in_det...ed_states_882/ Any you guys thinking about or planning on going? If I'm still in the country(yes, good chance I'll be gone again by the end of the year), I will be there. |
It's just spectating, but I'm probably to make it to the last 3 rounds of the American Le Mans Series :D

I just registered for the ACNA VIR Full event 4/16-17. If the car is done in time I want to do Track Daze's new instructor clinic at VIR in March, but we'll see how the work pans out on the car.

1. I can haul significantly more stuff. 2. I no longer have to drag all my stuff into the hotel at night or fear tools, wheels/tires, etc... being stolen if left at the track. 3. I don't have to set up an easy up. The trailer provides more shade... and I just picked up a new roof mount 15500 BTU AC new from a friend of mine at Camping World for $120. 4. You can now camp in it if need be and save on hotel cost. 5. It also keeps your race car more secure and out of the elements if you choose to put it back in the trailer at the end of the day... which takes all of about 30 seconds with my car and trailer. 6. I also think it helps with theft stuff in another regard. Out of sight, out of mind. Opposed to my bright car being seen, all anyone sees is my old worn trailer. Or course, fuel consumption does go down, but my dodge diesel doesn't have any trouble pulling it and I still get relatively good fuel economy. |

I'm hoping to hit a MO a PP event or two early in the year. I don't think I've ran PP since 09 though and have never driven MO. That'll primarily be based on whether or not I think I can make Nationals. What TT class are you going to run in? |

Like you said, just don't have to worry about anything. I also have a Cummins Diesel. Love it! 97' to be exact.

What TT class are you going to run in? I'll be able to win some. Later on I may try to go up classes as I do more to my 7. I hope to be at all the GL events. Might be a dumb question. But what it PP and MO? I should be a the Nationals also. |

Nice! Enclosed trailers and Cummins FTW! My dad has around that year and it has around 450,000 miles on it and still pulling strong. Mine is an 05(the last of the good ones IMO before all the emissions crap hit). I bought it in 09 with 79,000miles after the last deployment as my present to myself and put a little over 100,000 miles more on it in the first 2 years I had it. Alot of those were loaded miles dragging my junk all across the eastern side of the country. I've only had to do "emergency routine maintenance " on the side of the road once. :D The water pump shaft bearing failed while driving home from work one day and flung the serpentine belt. A quick trip to the parts store, 3 10mm bolts, and an hour or two later, it was as good as new. 190,000 on it now. I bought for trailering my race car. I was going to build a 90' Rx7 TII. Found it locally. Needed a rebuild. But I decided I didn't want to put big money into racing cars on the big tracks again. So I bought a racing kart. And thought this is the way to go. I built it and ran it a few times last year. But really wasn't happy like I am in a car on a large track. So here I am again putting together a car for this year. I think I spent just as much money putting together the kart as I would have the car anyways. Running a stock class anyways. Nice. Yeah, keeping cost down is a task in and of itself. What car are you driving? FC? running this one or not? I just bought it a couple of weeks ago (when I picked up my enclosed trailer) from the original female owner with only 30,000 miles on it. Car has always been garaged. Its in great shape. She has always had a company vehicle and never drove this one that often. She just bought a new car and decided to sell this one. I've been driving on track off and on for a long time. But I've always had power steering. I thought it would be just fine. But I was reading a thread on here on how everyone was saying you'll get tired quickly with a manual rack. So now I'm a little bit worried on how quick it will tire me out. I guess I'll just have to try it and see. MO= Mid Ohio PP= Putnam Park 45 min south of Mid Ohio. I've been to Putnam once, but when I raced bikes in 05'. So be a little different in a car. |

I'm in discussions right now with a friend about a 48' enclosed trailer to haul my car and the wife's car to events - trailer has a/c but no heater - how hard it is to install one of those? Also I'm still waiting on more details so I don't know if it has an awning - can you recommend a particular awning to put on it? I'm really excited about the idea of finally being able to haul both cars and have some more security for the cars and spares/tools while at the track - plus being able to camp in the trailer is a big plus. |
