Power FC Finally off my lazy butt: PFC Install How-to.
Man you would think with all the PFC's sold, that someone would have the right format for wire cut. I have herd many different things with different results. In stead of cutting the wires I was going to cut the pins, but nobody seems to know what wires to cut including me. I have never herd about splicing two different wires together as someone stated. As for the ones that SRmotor sports sell, they go into the box cut and splice, so you dont have to cut your harness. I have two friends that bought one, and all they have to do is plug it in. Srmotor sports charges 100 for the conversion. I wish one person could come up with one good solution. Come on guys lets get this thing salved.
For those having problem with A/C you might be having this problem:
(Can't find the bloody thread I swear it was on 3rd Gen Forum)
[Bad summary]
Basically the PFC is much more voltage accurate than the stock ECU and the contacts on the A/C **** get dirty causing huge resistance which the stock ECU ignores but it bothers the PFC. Rick @ Rick's Rotary diagnosed this for somebody here on the forum and many other people chimed in on the thread saying they had the same problem).

Since I felt like grounding the actual PFC, and not only the harness, I simply velcro'd the PFC to the car. Prior to that, I unscrewed one of the 4 screws of the PFC, and slid the grounding wire in between the 2 panels, and I re-tighted it back together. The PFC sits firmly in place, and I'm now sure it's well grounded.
For the wires, each 4 were just disconnected from the stock harness, leaving them intact in case I want to re-install the stock ECU at some point.

Good luck getting it fixed/replaced under warranty anyway...I don't speak Japanese, and I doubt the good folks over at Apex'i speak English well enough to make everything line up (and besides, it's not in their interest to do so anyway...saves them money, i guess).
Just don't blow up your PFC and you'll be good

i just got pfc and it didnt come with any diagram suggesting i splice anything together and when ya'll say A/C you mean the air cond. right i didnt know if it was a slang word for a certian wire..
map checking
you can check to see what map you have by using the comparison tool that scotx wrote....it's here, for the time being:
http://opus.bloomcounty.org/~patrick/pfc
...just select base stock and base mod, compare them, and then compare the cells to what you have on yours. Yes, you have to do it this way, unless you're fortunate enough to have a datalogit. I believe you can also reset the maps by just using the reset function on the PFC, but I could be wrong there.

I wasn't for sure if you had to cut the wires for a JDM PFC, but I went and did it anyway. Now I just have to take my baby to a Dyno. Good write-up and pictures. Your thread helped me a lot. Installing this PFC was much easier than I thought. Thanks a lot.

Well, my server is back up, for the time being. Feel free to use either of the URL's:

http://opus.bloomcounty.org/~patrick/pfc
It continues to be one of the bigger draws to my site, so I'm glad to see that scotx's work didn't go unused

90% of power fc idle probs can be sorted easy:
use datalogit to remove the map from the ECU, then, with a COLD engine (IMPORTANT) initialise the ECU...put in basic settings only (injectors etc) and assuming the idle valve was set about right before... start the car.
It will oscillate a lot to start with, make sure NOTHING is turned on in the car and DONT TOUCH the throttle (if it wont crack up, open the idle valve a little and try again)
1)first 10 mins NOTHING ON
2)next 10 mins A/C only on
3)last 10 mins EVERTHING ON (lights/ A/C/ fans/ heated screen etc.)
this completes the self-learn, download your full map back again, the cold start is separate within the ECU and is not altered by map changes...
worth a go guys! works on every single EVO, SKYLINE, 200sx and STI I've ever done...(people do have different views on what to turn on and when, heated screen only, then everything etc. but sometimes thats not enough and stalls when the A/C kicks in, skylines especially)

Don't just "snip." Do yourself a favor and be sure to secure the loose ends somehow. I can't say specifically how bad things could get, but rest assured, some badness will go down, and it'll be a big PITA to track down. I bought a connector pair that's used for the hard drive power cords (the white molex kind), and you can use those to connect and disconnect things, and everything is protected against unwanted shorting (and sharting).
