Turbine Engine

What do you guys think about put this kind of engine on FD?

LOL, that engine is an old piece of junk. You could beat that power level with a 13BT.

You could use a more modern turbine engine for better results. The problems would be the cost (initial and upkeep) and the noise. A transmission isn't going to be cheap, either.

LOL, that's an APU, not a powerplant. It's only good for about 200bhp, as it is intended for starting the aircraft engines, or running the aircraft systems while the main engines are off. Using that APU in an RX-7 would be like replacing the 13B-REW with a big electric starter or an air conditioning compressor.

Before you non-aviation guys come up with any more engine ideas, I guess I should make a better recommendation: The P&W PT6 is good for about 500-1600hp, it's very easy to find a mechanic (unlike the rotary engine, lol), you can choose from several transmissions, and it's relatively cheap and easy to maintain as far as turbine engines go. You can get a really nice one for about $200,000 to 250,000 USD.

The wink meant it was a joke.

Must have been my nubi-ness.....of two plus years.

If I really wanted someting like this, I think the best first step is to call Mr. Breedlove and pull the Spirit of America out of the barn.

I don't think anybody is serious about this, lol.

Turbine engines have terrible throttle response. There was an article in Automobile magazine a few years ago about a turbine-powered race car; their solution to throttle response was to run on a giant torque convertor and set idle speed to be something crazy like 60% throttle.
