nissan vg30 swap
Hey just wondering how many of you guys out here have done this swap and how it turned out ??? its a toss up between that or a v8 havent decided yet also post up any problems that came up during this swap.

there's a kit on granny's site to make it a drop in...
i was thinking of doin it myself... as i can find the motor quite cheap... the disadvantage vs V8 is VG30DETT is made of recycled anvils.. it's FUCKIN HEAVY... but that motor can take a ton of abuse.. tons of boost no2 etc.. maintence on the engine is a pain in the ass... u gotta take apart so many things to reach something simple... like a water pump for example... all alum SBC would be a more logical and practical Choice IMO... |
I going to do this swap. I like that japanese sound bettere than a V8 so im going with this. And Ottoman is right these motors can take a heck of a lot of beating.

They are tough engines.. no doubt about that. The reason I went with a domestic V8 was parts availability. I like going to NAPA and almost anything I need is in stock and affordably priced. Check your local junk yards to see how many VG30 cars are there just to check on parts availability. Try finding a factory manual as well. Only issue is far less people here can answer tech questions on the VG30 compared to a domestic engine. I had a nice VG30 in my garage when I did my swap and still sourced a chevy V8. I was tired of searching for parts and special ordering mazda stuff. I wanted a common engine and if I got stuck could get help easily. Just consider this once you decide whats right for you.

I have had mine done for a few months now, but I used a VG30DE for the extra HP. Runs like a top and fits like a glove. I used it because it was loads cheaper than an LS1 and t56. Not as powerful but max power was not what I needed. I am not sure what kind of tech you might need but there is a large group of Nissan guys just like there are a bunch of RX7 guys. Good engine and it is installed in everything from trucks to Mercury mini vans. lots of them in junkyards

I agree with custom13B. The parts availability and pricing, along with power potential is easily in the V8's favor. And I'm not an American engine fan, nor a V8 fan. I appreciate all engines, and I'll admit I have a bias towards Japanese manufacturers, but an LS swap makes SO much more sense...

To each thier own...really. I honestly do like the VG30 series engine. I just think go big or go home. But thats me. If he does a VG30 thats fine,Im sure it will be a blast to drive. Just dont expect me to be able to help ya.

do u have pics? I'd love to see em Open a thread bro! :smiley_12 |
for all out performance the LS1 is a good swap, but the buy in is just to high for me. I really only needed 200 HP to the wheels for my setup, so the VG30DE was perfect and the whole swap cost me about half what a T56 trans costs. I posted so pics a few months ago on this site. I'll do a search.
