there was a guy here in Evansville, IN who had a 1st gen with the 2.3 turbo running high 10's till he put it into a wall....from what i remember he did it farely cheap

jdunmyer 09-15-07 11:07 AM

go for it

the 2.3 ford engine has huge power potential
it also has a heavy aftermarket following if you know where to look

Granny's Speed Shop now offers a mount kit for the 2.3 for FC's.

PSi 09-16-07 11:09 AM

It is a Very "Money efficient" engine and loves Boost...

I think i may do this instead of the KA24DE-T...

Im not familiar with this granny's speed shop but ill check it out and see if its worth it compared to just doing my own fabrication...

THanks for the helper push...

Its also a really cheap engine to rebuild.

I am a BIG fan of the 2.3L turbo, but I think there are much better choices out there now than the cast iron wonder from Peru.

If I were to have a choice I would pick up a Mazdaspeed6 2.3L and the MX5 5 speed.

The MS6 engine and controls package makes for a wonderful package and the fact that the engine has been produced for 8 years in various tune and trim you could even build one out of the salvage yard!

NOPR 09-25-07 05:21 PM

it doesnt fit in a second gen unless you want to cut a couple mammoth holes in your hood. there are better options out there IMO.

daemonjosh 09-26-07 11:54 AM

How about in the first gen? I loved my XR4Ti, and I bet it'd be an awesome engine in the FB.

dbragg 09-26-07 12:29 PM

what do these come out of?

7T9rex 09-26-07 08:31 PM

im working on a 2.3 swap on my rx7 with eville140 ..the guy that built the silver 2.3 rx that ran 10's ...if you need any help let me know i also got some pictures of the swap...

daemonjosh 09-28-07 11:34 AM

They come out of Merkur XR4Ti's, Mustang SVO's, Thunderbird Turbo Coupes, and I believe the Capri RS turbo and could be had in the 1984/5 Mustang GT.

daemonjosh 09-28-07 11:37 AM

That'd be awesome if you could post some pics.

Sweet ride 7T9rex. Local TN boy I see. 2.3Ts are great little motors. I have a 86Merkur with 82k miles and the power is sweet. Only problem is that its an auto. That why I went with my RX-7. Debating in the back of mind on doing a 2.3T swap into something soon. I have a 88 SE and an 81 Starlet that both would love turbo power. Good luck.

Thanks for the offer of help 7T9rex, but it will probably be a little while before I start on another project as I have too many already. Just got me thinking about the 2.3s again because my dad and I picked up another kinda 2.3 powered ride.

does anyone have pics of FC's with the 2.3 swap? there was a thread or two in the past that had some but I cant seem to pull them up in searching

krezlyn 11-04-07 10:52 PM

Just a lil bump, really would like to see a pic of a finished swap. I think this might be the swap I'm lookin' for. Cheap, reliable, and a lot of aftermarket support. :icon_tup:

MegamanEXE 11-07-07 12:24 PM

I am picking up a mustang with a built 2.3t with a T-5 behind it soon, and I plan on ripping everything out of it and putting it in an FC. Still shopping for a body though, if anyone wants to help me out lol

budmanracing 11-07-07 12:44 PM

would like to see this swap also. Have a motor and trans from a 5.0 conversion on a notch. Might look to see what it can do in my first gen.

Still working on it. Things have been going slow because of starting college and now dropping out due to surgery. Plus I'm pretty poor now.
