Engine Swap

Hey everyone,

I have a 94 RX~7 that I have been doing a frame up on. I purchased the car with no power train whatsoever. I have been bashing my head against the wall :wallbash: trying to figure out what I want to put in it to gain the most power but without spending an arm and a leg on it. I know what the normal options are and was planning on trying to do a 20g BUT a friend of mine owns a tow yard and recently picked up a totaled 98 supra mkiv TT that only has 30K or so on it. He said I can have the car for a set of rims I have laying around in my shop that he has had his eye on.

My question is what will I run in to if I decide to put the mkiv TT in to my 94 RX~7? I know there must be discussions about this in here somewhere but I can’t seem to find anything specific to my situation.

Any help or advice will be much appreciated ……………………… AND YES I know what a SIN it is to replace a 13g with a mkiv but it’s almost free and I don’t have a ton of cash to throw around.

ummm, wow. you mean 20b and 13b? i do believe that the 20b was designated the 13g early on, but my rotary history is a little hazy.

Over the last years, i have seen hundreds of these threads pop up. I have yet to see one actually come to life.

To me, this is just another pipe dream project car. I know how hard it can be to finish a project, and mine is just swapping engines, rebuilding transmission and installing a bunch of new stuff...and I am going on 2 years.

i highly doubt this one will ever become a reality... just like the other 200 i have seen stay in dreamland. Don't take it personally, i am just playing the odds here.

Yes a lot of cars that people tear down never hit the road again BUT I have already done my 69 Camaro SS, my 89 Z28 and a Sand Rail (From scratch, might I add) and I'm not a little kid so it will happen and I assume it will be done late this summer.

Although I am not a fan of putting piston engines in an FD, it is your car. If you have the know how to do this and motivation then do it. Or you could sell off the toyota bits and put in either the 13b REW it came out of the factory with or a 20b for shits and giggles. Just curious buthave you ever owned a rotary? driven or been in a modded FD with a 13b or 20B. If not I would get a ride in one as I am sure you will be happily surprised

No I have never been in a working 13B or 20B, when I purchased mine it was already a roller. I have been in many fast cars and I own a 2008 R1 that is a huge rush.

I'll have to take your advice and try it, I have been in a Supra TT and they are sick ass fast cars. Also love the sound.

Heh Heh, much better than putting a Miata engine with an automatic transmission in the chassis just to try to on save gas!

Well, like someone else said, its your car, do as you please. But i would try to get a ride in a modded Rotary. They'll put down suprising power and give you quite a kick driving it around.

i HAVE seen a 2JZ-GTE in an FD before, quite a modification tho, all custom mounts, custom driveshaft, custom wiring harness, custom dash, im sure the transmission tunnel had to be vastly modded to fit the 2JZ trans into it as well. You said you dont have a lot of cash to throw around, well building up an engine not meant to fit in this car, especially since its only been done once before, is NOT the way to go. This WILL cost you and arm and a leg, i suggest you pick up a 13B-REW and slowly mod it, you can generally pick one up for 1300 or so, usually including the trannys.

the 13G is a tri rotor race engine built by Mazdaspeed back in the 90's. Its no longer available, but i believe you can get parts for it. I May be wrong, but i think Racing Beat has a built 13G for sale... 48,000 i think. Racing Beat's Bonneville Salt Flats FD has a Tri turbo 13G, makes more than 900 horse and allowed their car to top out at 242 miles an hour.
