Conversion question

I know I don't post on this forum a lot, but I still know more than most people on here. I want NOBODY to flame me for asking this question.

I am considering doing an SR20DET swap into an FD :rlaugh: . I am also considering the LS1, so don't even mention that. This thread is about the SR20DET. I have been running an SR in my 240 for 2 and a half years and I know the motor inside and out :bigthumb: . I know that there have been a few people that have done this swap, but I want to know more about it. Does anyone already make the mounts for it? Who would consider doing the wiring? Is there any kits on the market for this swap? If anyone has any info at all, please post below for me.

And like I said, I have been doing a lot of research on an LS1 swap as well, so please don't post 500 reasons why I should do that over an SR.

Thanks again you guys! ;)

Putting a SR20 in a RX7 is probably about the same as putting one in a 240. The RX7 will need some custom mounts, but the wiring should be pretty straight forward. There are a few people that have done this swap, but basically, you can use the same instructions as you would use to do a 240. Just swap RX7 for 240. It's all custom anyways.

Out of curiosity, why would you do the SR20 over the LS1? This isn't meant to be a flame. Just a simple question.

Are there any boring options for a SR20? Stroker kits for it? (rods/crankshaft, probably new pistons too, may require different size main bearings) If you could get it near 2.6 liters displacement, maybe a little less (rotaries arent as thermodynamically efficient as piston engines, so to make the same power a piston needs less air mass over time) it would pull just like a Rotary with the same turbos, but with a leaner AFR, less knock-phobia, and probably more low end and gas mileage.

Also, really not trying to be a drag here, but a LS1 would own it, hands down, period, ultimately, especially if you put a turbo or supercharge on it. In many regards its more economical too, especially with cheaper parts, low gas consumption while N/A, and some pretty high reliability.

I think he wants to cheap out and put his current engine into a lighter, better handling chassis...

which is great, because 240's need LS1 Lovin' :bigthumb:

Now that I think about it, wouldn't it be great to do an all out S13 drift car with an LS1?! You could make it a combination drift/drag car so easily! That would be awesome! I almost want to do this more than the RX7 now. I guess I will need both eventually.

Anyone have any links to some 240 forums, preferably with LS1 swaps?

90% of drifters are whiney ricer pansies who hate the sound of existance of anything american in motorsport or v8s in general. They HAVE to hear some raspy super-high revving thing with a turbo and an air horn hooked up to the BOV and a VISCIOUS LSD for points.

So, while Im sure you could drift a LS1 240SX and then some, because it would have a more mild, deeper sound, and if the hood ever came out theyd see its a v8, youd probably lose on points unless you were just tthat good at it.

But, in the end, its about a show, and they want to see some "OMG JDM" thing drifting around thats RHD and sounds like a raspy whistley turbocharged 4banger :P

GDJ 07-04-05 02:24 PM

That's what would make it so awesome!

Any RHD LS1 RX7s or 240s out there?

Sr20????

Forgive my ignorance about ricers, but is this the Sylvia motor you are talking about? If so, you might find this interesting, my post number 10 in this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&highlight=bmw

This has aftermarket turbo parts, a huge intercooler as you can see, and some modification of the pan was necessary to get over the rack and the crossmember. Running now and making an estimated 375-400 HP. I assume the RX-7 has more room - this was a tight fit with the turbo system.
