Does anyone know if the 4g63 would fit in a FD and mount to the stock FD Tranny? If so which 4g63 motor will work? Mistubishi is selling EVO IX crate motors for about 5k right now. I would really like to put an evo 9 motor in the FD.

coltboostin, so if i were to get an adapter plate or custom bell housing it would possibly work? What about the mounts for the engine and tranny? Would i have to get that custom made too?

Wow dude....you came in this conversation like 3 years late man. Of course you have to make everything custom. But I would strongly suggest you use the old 6 bolt DSM 4g63's. They're a lot stronger and they have parts readily available to make them RWD.

If you bring the words "custom" and "cash" into the equasion, you can make anything work! And-I forgot to post this here... I have grown sick of waiting for some simple machine wrok to be done to my head. 2 months later-project at a standstill, and I am officially fed up. If it were not for my CBR, and my Colt, I would have come to this poitn a long time ago. Stock junkyard head is going on tomorrow night. ITs thrash time. That is all. |
^^ hey jackass, pick up your phone!!!!

4g63 Conversion
You know what. The 4g63 conversion will be sweat. My friend owns a shop Modern Automotive Performance here in MN. They are just starting one on an FD. They are already working on getting it installed. I got the motor for my fc because they are doing the swap :-). Check out for updates on maperformance.com and if you want to do it to contact them and see how it is all going down.

They never mentioned this project......I will shoot then an email. |
Why do you have to use the old 6 bolt dsm 4g63 and are not able to use the EVO IX 4g63 with the mivec?

You can use an Evo motor, but I always mod on the cheap-and my whole set up will cost less than an Evo long block alone... |
did he OP ever completed the swap ?
|
Who is OP?

I'v only read only a few pages of this conundrum and I have a idea why don't you get toyota's 4 banger the 4age thats a light motor, already rwd, can turn to 11,000rpm when built right or if you want forced induction twincharge it should be simple right? but then agin all of you seem to want 4g63
|
why do people like the sr20det so much? I've wanted to do a piston motor swap for awhile now and my freinds say go sr20 and I tell them to screw off and if I used a nissan engine it would be a ka24de that i would make a twin charger because not many people know that the ka24 can handle more boost and is a 2.4liter vs the sr20's 2.0 liter. I dont like sr20det's yeah there cool but I think they are over rated

Because there are parts already availablie to make the old DSM 6 bolt 4G63 into RWD format. Look at my post a few pages back...the extra long one. I dont know if these parts will work on the EVO 4G63. In addittion, I know tons of 4G63 tuners and shops, here in Florida and in New York, and they all agree almost unanimously; the old DSM 6 bolt 4G63 is the strongest. I know this is gonna sound kinda ignorant, but for some reason as withmost things,...they dont make them like they used to. And not to mention price. They're tons of 6 bolt DSM 4G63's in upullit junkyards in my area for $130 each. Buy some pistons, rods, valves, cams etc, drop the bitch off at the machine shop and you ready to party like a rock star.....totally dude. lol |

I'm not a big fan of that motor....I dont see what all the hype is about. I guess its a nissan drifting thing. I haven't seen one put down serious power without breaking. Meanwhile I'm seeing some wackos taking out the VQ's in 350z's and putting in SR's...lol.There is a tuning shop close to me here in Tampa, they have a race car....full race 240 with a SR20 fully built ( I'm not sure if its red top, blue top, pink top or big uptop) putting down 400hp...and they're boasting...lol:rlaugh: . I think Enjuku's puts down about the same..lol. Now let me see...what do I have to do to get that out of a 4G63...hummm......ah ha....just spit on it...lol. If I was to go Nissan, its RB,VQ,VG and KA all the way for me. The SR is very common in Japan. Over there they are a dime a dozen...or should I say a yen a dozen. But they aren't common over here, they're pricy here. And I'm tired of everybody in such a rush to get JDM this and JDM that. A lot of things from Japan aren't good, sorry Nissan guys, the SR is one of them. |
well said good luck with your project

Hey guys. For all you guys asking me about trannys, talking tranny stuff, and thinking about using different blocks and so on, this is just my 2 cents. I prefer to use domestic trannys because they are SOO much stronger and there are a ton of upgrades for them. Buschur racing makes an adapter plate that allows us to bolt up any Chevy/GM tranny to the 4g63. The plate costs $350 on www.buschurracing.com. And with some simple modifications to that adapter plate, you can also bolt up any Ford tranny. Now with all the GM & Ford trannys in your arsenal everything is so easy. You can choose from any ultra powerful automatic or manual GM or Ford tranny!!! Or even custom build something with any kind of gear ratio you want for a reasonable price. There are tons of 6 speeds too. If you want to use a Ford manual tranny;the 4cyl Ford Mustang/Mekur XR4TI from 1988-1994 uses the same diameter clutch as the DSM's, but with the center spline to fit a ford tranny. Centerforce and tons of other high performance clutchmakers make clutches for those mustangs. Use the ACT AWD chromoly flywheel because its thinner and it will clear the adapter plate, get a pilot bearing pressed into it. For GM manual trannys; same ACT flywheel but get a custom clutch disc at www.clutchnet.com ,they're pretty cheap(mitsu diameter, GM center spline). For Ford and GM Automatics (Chevy Powerglide, Ford C4...whatever)just follow Buschur's setup on his site. Automatics are even easier because most domestic guys run autos and there are tons of custom torque converters etc. out there. Check out www.grannysspeedshop.com, they put a lot of V8's and V6's in FD/FC's, they have tons of info on mounting trannys and wiring issues. I strongly suggest using a full stand alone like Electromotive, Haltech etc., wire everthing from scratch. Use the Mighty Max mounts on the motor, get a crossmember made in the FD/FC with mounts for the motor, grannysspeedshop even sells some crossmembers, make up tranny mounts, cut the oil pan flange off turn it around it an reweld it, or get a custom oil pan made at www.cantonracingproducts.com or elsewhere, extend the oil pickup. Buy a Forrester intake because it flips easily, or get a Magnus one already in RWD format, or custom make one. Please dont do that $h!t I see some dudes doing by cutting the stock intake throttle body flange off and rewelding it on the other side, thats so ghetto...lol, and very restrictive. Get a top mount exhaust manifold made, or like my buddy did in his Starion:buy a cheap ebay stainless one, cut the flange off flip it and reweld it with support brackets(it came out pretty good). The dudes at www.shearerfabrications.com can also custom make you something too and they're also pretty knowledgeable. Also get the bushur alternator relocation kit tho move the alternator to the intake side( I also think another company sells one for cheaper). Anything else I forgot??. Damn...I should be charging you guys...lol.
Update; www.grannysspeedshop.com also sells a tranny mount bracket for the FD to mount a GM or Ford tranny. It supposedly mounts to a stronger more load bearing area in the FD than the Hinson Super Cars one. They also sell custom driveshafts pretty cheap, and a sweet torque arm that bolts nicely to the back of the tranny. Looks like we may have to cut the hood on the FD for the cam gears guys, also might have some "intake manifold rubbing against brake booster" issues. All minor problems but thought I should state them. A '92-'00 Honda Civic aluminum radiator looks like the best fit/cheapest option for a radiator. Cut your water pump just before the openings, and tap it for a fitting or weld a fitting to it, with a hose going to the base of your radiator. Weld a fitting to a drilled freeze plug and place it in the opening between the cam gears. Get a remote thermostat housing and hook up the lines. Block off the stock outlet of course. I call my project; "Project Off The Shelf 4G63FD", because mostly everything is available right out of the performance market. Not much needs to be custom fabbed. Just my 2 cents. |
Bellhousing to use an FD tranny.

IF you are using the wideblock 4G63 you can do this........ Copied from projectzerog.com....... "How the hell will an RX7 transmission work? This came as quite a suprise to me as well. Here is the background. Mazda built the Mazda B2600 for several years. During two of those years ('87-'88... 12/86-6/88 to be exact), the carburated engine blocks were the 2.6L G54B" http://projectzerog.com/drifting/ima...ltedTo4G64.jpg |
A couple of updates:
1) If you try really hard you can get the 4g63 into the engine bay of an FD without the cam gears/timing belt hitting the hood ;) We did have to remove and box in part of the firewall for the 1g cam angle sensor. 2) When fabricating or installing a transmission brace and any rear end bracing be sure to grind away the under body sealer and weld around the mounting points to the chassis as there are only 6 tack welds holding them in place. Other than that there is really nothing to share until we post up pictures, but we are holding off on that until after the DSM shooout in August ;) Oh and our plans changed somewhat, our new goal is over 1000whp...No we are not kidding. Chris Carey Modern Automotive Performance |
okay..... my bad fellas. the B2600/TII tranny option was mentioned earlier in this thread. Sorry for mentioning an "already-known" tranny option"
|
CAM ANGLE SENSOR?? C'mon Chris, standalone baby. Electromotive TEC 3R, crank trigger wheel man. But how did you get the "no hood scoop"? I think you guys lowered the steering rack huh? If so hows the ground clearance? And whats up with the wideblock 4G63 bolted to the TII tranny? SO WHAT?? The 4G63 is gonna break that tranny in a day, at least I think so. Domestic tranny all the way fellas...you'll be sorry.
