SCCA prorally Rx3 restoration

Well I bought what’s likely the worst condition car I’ve ever owned. An old Mazda Rx3 SCCA rally car.

probably 2001. Has the logbook but the cage is so far out of date i would be a do over to get legal for use today.

What is the plan for it? I may have an rx3 part or 2 hiding somewhere?

i plan to restore it. Depending how much of the shell gets reshelled, ill either redo the cage (and make it current for legal use today) or keep the cage and give it the in period treatment. Its extremely poor condition. Like if it was a rally car with good history no would save this.

this is a really cool project. i can't wait to see what you do with it.

is there a solid source for aftermarket Rx-3 parts or are you pretty much now at the mercy of people with parts or parts cars?

for the Rx3 at least, the Phil's Rotary in Aus has a lot of offerings for panels. And since it will stay a rally car, im not worried about interiors. The suspension will be in the spirit of what they did with the volvo stuff. Ditch the Mazda parts (weaker) and use off the shelf Mk1/2 Ford Escort parts.
