SC questions
Hello everyone. Hoping to get some help here, long story short, a long time ago I got a new Camden 7" supercharger and never got around to install in the car (74 RX-3). Now I have been trying to get this thing installed and having problems with clearance. The unit is contacting the passenger side where the strut goes, not by much but enough that the SC will not align with the manifold. I got some solid motor mounts that raised the engine a bit, I thought that it would be enough to clear it but still a no go. Has anyone have had any issues with installation of a SC to an RX-3? Or can anyone point me in the right direction for this???
Two issues.
1) the 7" is mounted slightly further out than the 5" (one inch or less)
2) when I went to install a 5" in my GLC which has an RX-3 engine bay, I had to hammer in the strut tower a bit.
You will need to hammer your strut tower if you want to use an SC in your RX-3.

Extreme measures (taking hammer to chassis).
Can't you just move the engine over toward the other side of the engine bay?
Looks to me like this is what Mazda does with the turbo cars to make more room for the turbo.
I mean, this is if you haven't already aligned your rear end, driveshaft and transmission for to reduce joint stresses for racing.

Thanks for the reply... wow, looks like I will have to get rid of this SC because I'm not going to hammer that strut tower at all, maybe the next owner might want to do that but not me.... thanks
Thanks Blue for your advice, but I wasn't planning to move anything around, I was hoping that this would be a "bolt on, drop in" kind of deal, but I know better now. The car is not to be raced, just something I have to play around with, but not to mess with the body in any way.... guess I will be missing on using this thing for a while
That is true, the only thing is that just about anybody is putting turbos in just about anything, where you seldom see some kind of supercharger out there anymore. I wanted it to be a bit different than the rest. The car is already running a fuel injection with a Sprint RE.

I been wanting to do a supercharged efi set up.that would be a bit different and maybe be able to squeeze a bit more power out of it compared to the Camden carb set up.
I got a eaton m90 of a thunderbird which I will test fit onto a 13b this year, also can run a Intercooler with that set up,I read up on here somewhere that someone did a similar set up with a eaton m90 and they were able to get 280 hp out of it.

That sounds interesting,, but right now I am just debating if I should continue with this car or just give it up. It is one of those things that I had a vision in mind and then it turned into a mirage, seems like I will never see the final product completed. I have got so many parts and junk for the car in hopes to finish it and still not able to do that. Got rid of about 70% of the stuff I had and keep just the essential, and still not even close to where I hoped to be. It is life I guess, but for now it will stay the way it is, maybe I just decide to put the small bumpers I got for it like 6-7 years ago and also replace the 4 port engine with that T2 one that has been sitting in the garage for about the same amount of time.... who knows.....
My GLC is getting a turbo. I tried the whole 5" thing and didn't really like it in there. So I agree, you aren't missing much by deciding against going SC in your 3.
Just get it up and running for now. Forget the power adders etc.

Thanks Jeff, that might be true about not missing much on the SC, I got almost everything to install a turbo into the thing, I just thought that a SC would like nicer in the car.... well, time will tell what happens with this thing.....I don't have much to do as power adders to it, just the rear end needs to be upgraded, but that is for a latter time....
I have had the car for about 15 yeasr, not sure where it came from, but I got it here in TX that long ago. It was stock with a blown motor when I got it, the mods started slow with it, it is/was like a pass time for me with it....
Just measured my 1987 Turbo II. Engine in stock position with stock mounts.
Passenger frame rail to center of E-shaft nut = 15 3/4"
Driver frame rail to center of E-shaft nut = 13 1/2"
Offset toward Driver side (Left hand side) = 2 1/4"
