Your intake does make it allot easier with yours being a 6 Port.My oil filler tube is more in the way.

Yeah, it looks easier... but the intake is facing the decklid, and it's going to take some crazy piping toget it through the airflow meter and a K&N. I wish the inlet was on the passenger side.

I've got plumbing from the motor to inside the car. With aluminum tube and a pipe cutter it's easy enough. I still need to make brackets to support the pipes though. Kennedy Engineering says that 1.25" pipe is adequate so I'm trying it, though it does look awfully small. I want to keep the volume of coolant to a minimum so it doesn't take forever to warm up. The short tube at the highest point will be replaced with a filler & cap.

I think I have seen that green oval before...is it the one with the wilwood brakes and the wide fenders?

Nice! It looks like the engine is supported from the tranny only. Are you going to add a bracket to sopport tyhe engine ? I installeda 13 b in my ghia but used a front cover from an earlier model to support the engine.

Yep, the alternator is going on the side. Perhaps a high output GM or ?? No need to run the stocker since I'll be making the bracket myself. With an electric fan and electric water pump it might be wise to beef it up. How's your baja Jeff? I'd like to see a good vid of a street driven rotorbeetle, not just dragstrip passes and burnouts.;)

The motor is hanging right now and I would like to change the front cover to use the earlier mount. Is it fairly easy? I can imagine there is CAS alignment, any other gochas? I think that once I replace the exhaust mani with a header, the motor (sans water pump & housing) will weigh in close to the og VW motor.

I noticed the green oval... Wow, love it. That's a scary power to weight ratio. The though has crossed my mind that when I'm done with this it would be easy to swap in a turbo motor, (particularly since I am tentatively planning a Haltech for this project) but then the T1 trans would no longer be adequate and the money pit gets deep fast...

Can't wait to drive this, or even start the engine. I am concerned about the noise though. I have limited space for mufflers, and I am trying to build a daily driver.

you can run a rancho pro street trans....it will handle the power.....I had one with 5:32 gearing......

That's because I was still thinking of using them. Originally I had planned on making a tubeframe (attached to the mounts) that would protect the oil pan, but in the interest of saving weight & time I'm looking at the front mount. The late model mounts actually have an advantage; they would connect further forward on the car where the sheetmetal is thicker and structurally stronger. The tail end or a beetle is acually pretty flimsy.

About the trans, that's good news. I will be buying a built T1 after I check out the stock ratios. I was concerned because there is a local guy that has a NA 13b VW thing that has been burning through "Pro Street" transmissions... I'm not going to be launching it hard so I'm hoping that will help. I'm thinking I might go with a 3.88 R&P and heavy overdrive in 4th because this will be a daily driver and I want good MPG on the freeway. If 3rd can reach 80mph, that will cover my need for quick accelleration.

Attached are some pictures of my set-up. I used aluminum angle for the bracket. It is bolted to the bumper support.

I am going to change the radiator. I received an aluminum radiator from Howe racing.

what is that guy in the thing doing to the trannys...hell I have a 2110 turbo motor atached to the same trans I had behind my 12abp....its still good and I drive like a psycho on a daily basis....it might be his tire size and if I'm not mistaken things have reduction gears....that might be his problem...

Attached is a current picture of the engine compartment. Also the exhaust. I instaaled a presilencer under the traany with a heat shield and a muffler. both from racing beat.

I was waiting on a set of coolant port plugs to get here. Now I can install them and the intake manifold. Then it's the rear cage, radiator and finally exhaust.

Wow, that's awesome. Is it loud? I have a 3 row like you did and I'm wondering if a thin aluminum rad would be better because of easier flow through it. I guess I'll give mine a try first.

Alright, since a turbo is not out of the question I will definitely get the Haltech.

If you change the front cover you can use a VW traction bar for the mount...all you have to do is weld the engine mount to the bar...the bar attaches to the extra holes in the bumper mount...
