rx4's

im looking at buying an rx4 and would like to know if anyone has had one so they can tell me how good they.

Siraniko 09-05-03 10:25 AM

i used to own a 74 and 76. the only difference between the two are the bumpers. good cars, imho, but heavy as hell.

Wankelguy 09-05-03 11:51 AM

I currently own a '74 and a '76.
The differences are much more than just the bumpers. The fenders, hood, grille, and nose section are all different, as are the taillights and rear fascia.
In addition, the stock motors were quite different in their porting, with the '74 having the largest stock ports of any early rotary. The '74-'75 RX4s were also lighter.
The early RX4 is my favorite rotary car, they're faster than a stock 5.0 Mustang, and they look bitchin' too.

I personally like the '74 front end better. The one I used to have was a '74. That's where the engine I'm building for my 3 came from.

yup...thanks for adding those. thats why the 76 are heavier. more shit to it plus big bumpers. there's much difference in the interior except the 76 came with wood grain gauge panel. motor wise, i cant remember much except the 76 center ports are longer and the intake manifold have the reverse runners.

just made a correction in my prior post.

RX4 is still my favorite. I used to have '76 but I always thought '74'-'75 models were cool. IIRC there was difference on emission therefore milage was better on later models but prev models were more fast.

Wankelguy 09-14-03 02:25 PM

The intake ports were restricted in 1976 as a response to the fabled "energy crisis" of the seventies.

maz_ auto 09-23-03 12:04 AM

mate how do?rx4s are the filth alround rotary,not being as popular as their little brothers,over here you should be able to find an excellent example for a fairly decent price,depends what state you live in,QLD seems to be the bargain capital of Australia,at the moment.yes rx4s are heavy boats but they are the best equipped{except rx7}and you can fit a 13bt without any dramas.if you need any parts for your future ride,i've still got about 6 or 7 rx4s hanging around.good luck

Mine is an Auto-X toy. I am either going to but a S5 TII engine in it or my 20B, haven't decided yet.

They are a LOT like a Ford Courier, other than the flared fenders, rotary engine, heavier rearend, better brakes, beefier tranny, different interior, different frontend styling, different tailgate, different battery location, different...

Cory Simpson 10-14-03 02:57 PM

I thought I heard somewere that Ford contracted Mazda to build the Courior.

I heard that on like the history chanel or something. And they also said that chevy contracted Toyota to build there small trucks. But I'm not to sure.

Ford Couriers were built for Ford by Toyo Kogyo, Ltd.

I think Isuzu built the Chevy LUV trucks, but I may be mistaken.

Cory Simpson 10-15-03 03:07 PM

Maybe it was Isuzu, that does sound right.

DriveFast7 10-15-03 04:24 PM

GM owns a large % of Isuzu so I'd bet Luv is zuzu

Siraniko 10-15-03 06:11 PM

ISUZU = CHEVY

MITSUBISHI = DODGE
