Rx2 Tie Rods
Anyone no where I can find some inner and outer tie rod ends? thanx
|
you can get the outers at autozoe or kragens, but the inners are harder to find,. O need some inners and an idler
|
So what if you tred the hole rod assy from a RX7 frist gen ?
|
Where are they located? I am in Baltimore, MD.
|
actually I have an extra set of outer tie rods. Let me know if you are interested, I will sell them to you for $60.00 including shipping
|
what year is your car i found out that there are differences between the early cars and the later ones.
the early ones are harder to get matt |
mine is a 72 rx2
|
i think 72 would be a later one should be able to find them at
any parts store. the outer that is the inner is a little harder to find. matt |
so far the inners are very hard to find, I tried to get some from a newer rx2 ( 74 ) and you are right theya re different, the newer ones are short just like the outers. Basically the same with the only difference being the thread is backwards ( inside the shaft )

does anyone have any first hand experience as to why FB tie rods wouldn't work?
|
Inners are (were) on ebay right now. Email the guy and see if he can dig up more inners. He's got both outers and inners, as well as tie rods.
BTW, Detlman, I bought a set of inners (listed 70-74) for my 74, but would gladly share them with the forum if you're willing to part with your 74 inners. |
Wow you really dug this one from the grave.. But I think I'm going to need new tierods in my duece aswell.. thing gots a little steering play. :(
|
Back on ebay, with 6 to choose from. Y'all really need to jump on these, as I haven't seen ANY offered in a long time until this guy popped up.

those dont look the same as whats on my rx2

Can someone that is more familiar with the RX-2 front end help me understand this? What changes were made, and when (74+, I think)? I've got a 74 and the car's been at the body shop for a LONG ass time, so I don't remember much at all about what I've got. When it comes back, I'd like to have tie rods waiting for it.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MAZDA...50082595QQrdZ1 Can I use these inners? Are the outers and threaded rod common, whereas the inners are the harder-to-find left-handed thread? Can I use all 70-73 hardware and convert my steering linkage to the more common stuff? |
You can use the First Gen RX7 inner and outer tie rods. They fit, you just need to route out the hole a tiny bit for the ball joints to fit. (more like angle them out so they fit. )

I got my weather kits from here. They got tie rods. https://rsp-secure.com/shop/default.asp[/HTML]

Like most of you have said, the inners we can find are not the right size. If you happened to buy the wrong sized ones (like I did), there is a pretty easy fix.
I bascially cut the end of the old one, used the old stud in between the cut piece and the new rod end, used some loctite and cranked them together. This made up the difference and once you polish it down, it looks fine and won't break. This is my extra set, but it will work fine once my others have worn out. THe "drilling the hole out for 1st gen. one's" isn't that easy...the hole is tapered and EXTREMELY strong steel. The bit to properly drill it out with the taper is about $70.00...plus finding a place to do it. IN FACT...I think the ones I got from Ebay didn't fit anyway...the shaft below the threads was too large! |
Is it the inners or outers that have the left-handed thread?
