Hi.I've seen on the forum that the 86 rx7 rear fits but you'll have to use your top hardware from the rx2 in order for it to work.I'll be trying it on my rx2 soon.

Second gen shocks work 86-91. I have them on my car now. You just put your top hardware on to them, and they bolt right up.

Nice to know. What about the fronts?

The fronts require a little more work but are definelty doable. You will have to modify the strut housing, but can use just about anything that is close in size. I think mine are off of a Rabbit or a Scirrocco.

In my case I used a custom Bilstein Coilover setup. Basically you get the tops of the strut towers cut off. A new threaded collar is welded in it's place to accept the new strut insert. A secondary "washer" is welded on the outside of the tower to hold the coilover springs in place. You will also need to stick a spacer (3/4-2 inch) in the strut tower to account for any difference in strut insert size.

Here is a pic of my fronts. You can see that the stock fat piece that held the original spring was cut off. A new threaded insert was welded in it's place.

Here is a pic of the second gen shocks with coilover springs, and the stock RX2 upper mount.

I used QA1 struts and made an adapter for the top. The part number is DR9855 with a set of 95 lb 14" springs.

Those are some soft *** springs in the rear. I used 150's and thought they may be a little light.

Man does this bug me. I had two first gens and an 86 gxl and I sent all of them off to the junkyard. Now I am starting to learn that I can use other parts on my rx2. I really wanted to somehow use the 5 lug rotors and and upgrade the brakes.

BlueMunkey....
the big chunk of bar between the lower control arms pins on the main crossmember ~ I presume this is to brace them together for strength? What does your sump look like?

Also, they don't quite look like standard control arms - details?

Yes, it is to add support as I cut off the post and drilled and taped it for a 10mm bolt. I do not want the bolt to break off, I have not test fitted an engine yet because my rx2 is on the back burner. I'm about to get married and buy a new house and after I test fit an engine I will probably cut and weld it to the cross member. https://www.rx7club.com/forum_index.php
