rare car mazda rx-4?

i visted a local salvage yard recently and came apon a mazda rx-4 couldnt determine the year but it had a 13B in it is this a rare car? or just another junyard car. Also if anyone knows how many were made i would appreciate it

Japan2LA 09-08-08 08:32 PM

Rare..

jimmy o. 09-08-08 08:51 PM

its also is a cosmo i have no idea what that is either but i have heard of it. Are these cars worth any money

Japan2LA 09-08-08 09:33 PM

Cosmo worth nothing
Rx4 worth money

el_rotary 09-08-08 10:23 PM

Yeah, I have an RX4. 74 to be exact. I have gotten some nice offers for it. The newer ones are junk IMO

jimmy o. 09-09-08 12:23 PM

All i could really tell about it was 2 door has a/c and was m/t. It was fairly complete glass aside

JCurry 09-09-08 05:06 PM

RotorRican 09-09-08 06:02 PM

Eithere save it from the yard or strip it completely so they dont crush anything of value. the car in the foto is a Cosmo 1976-1978(i think 76 is first year but not sure)

dekam 1 09-10-08 05:11 PM

nice car

richjoneser 09-10-08 06:44 PM

Q for Wacky - Grill

Did you paint that grill black? I have seen those pics of your car, but i never noticed the all black grill. Did all the coupes come with black grills? My 74 RX4 wagon has a gray grill.

JCurry 09-10-08 08:40 PM

jimmy we should go get it and sell it or somethin then...

Siraniko 09-10-08 11:32 PM

I have to agree with Japan2LA. A Cosmo didnt make it in LA's rotary scene (particularly in the 80's street races) as it is heavy despite it came with a much nicer 5speed tranny and reverse intake manifold like the 76 RX-4's. and quite frankly, the shape is not very sporty so it is mainy used for parts. Its always been RX-2 and RX-3 but a few RX-4s.

jimmy o. 09-11-08 03:33 PM

i dont think they even have crusher there there was also a few 1st gen 7's and 2nd gen n/a's. what i want to know if it will be worth my time parting out of selling whole.

I agree, with every thing you said. I personally do not like them. It just seems that when ever I hear some one talking about a Cosmo its how they want one or they are cool...

RX2fan 09-11-08 08:48 PM

your best bet would probably be buying it whole and then selling it whole on ebay. do you know how much they want for it? on ebay you could prob get around 1500-3000 depending on condition. what do u guys think of that price range/ havent seen one for sale for a while so dont know exactly what they are going for

ehime 09-14-08 10:47 AM

Snap pictures of it next time ur down there

BASTARD 09-14-08 11:08 AM

Just an FYI... all rotary cars/trucks are getting very rare... even the butt ugly cosmo... they should all be saved. If your not interested please post up where they are so someone can go get them:icon_tup:

REPUZENTN 09-14-08 04:30 PM

Very tastefully done wacky:icon_tup: ! When can you do my wagon like that? Lol...

pdub214121 09-14-08 08:47 PM

i could use a shit load of parts from that car if you aint gonna jump on it i would sure like to know were it's located. i got a 74 rx4 automatic that i'm trying to make stickshift. thx

jimmy o. 09-15-08 04:47 PM

Ok since I hve no reason to mess with it as i have too many cars already its located in bellmead, tx shoot me a -e-mail @ j.oliver23@yahoo.com and i will give you the wrecking yards location i just didnt want anybody to go look and tell me it was a peice of junk or not worth your time

ct1973rx3 09-15-08 10:53 PM

RX-5's are heavier and less attractive.

I see potential in the cosmos pictured. i would start with filling the glass portion closest to the trunk (not rear windshield). Some subtle flares. Blacked-out headlight bezels and grill. Valance on the lower front.

richjoneser 06-30-09 08:38 PM

I see the cosmo, and I think disco. C'mon can't you see the cosmo being a car in cannonball run if the movie was made like 3 years earlier? They could have tricked it out, and the Japanese guys in the movie would have driven it. Way cooler than that z car (I think) they drove.

Speaking of disco, those gold rims would look perfect on my rx4 wagon. are they 4/110? Or did they get the 114s on the cosmo?

74RX4 07-01-09 07:40 AM

I daily drive a 76 Cosmo. I have another with roll cage and Lexan windshield that was raced in SCCA. I also have a 74 RX-4 and 2 parts cars with many parts. All but the Cosmo I drive and the complete RX-4 are FS. I've had people say they want parts. No one comes through. Talk is very cheap, particularly here.

Cosmo has 4 wheel disk brakes (10" front, 11" rear), 14" 4X120 wheels and coil springs all around. Very nice driving car. Mine will out run a stock 1st or NA 2nd gen. It has a GSLSE engine with Dellorto and SP Racing Beat exhaust.

Siraniko 10-30-09 08:21 AM

no need to get upset. instead, you should be happy that you dont have any competition for parts:):)

rotarydude 10-31-09 06:28 PM

Rx4s and Cosmos can be cool cars if they are done right, they can also be one hell of a sleeper as well. Sweet rides 74Rx4, I have the a set of the Amer Racing rims for one of my cosmos also, and I used the same LE rims on my Rx4, I also have that same airdam i haven't mounted it yet because I am getting the lower valance and the airdam molded into one piece. I like how you used paint on the 4 to accent the natural body lines.

Right now my is dull grey which is ok because it has a blown 13b 6 port under hood pushing about 300hp at the flywheel but the s/c gives me enough torque at low end to twist the chassis all up. The dull paint has gotten me out of more tickets than you can imagine.... what do you mean I was doing 110mph in this POS you've got to be kidding....LOL

Buggy 11-01-09 07:18 AM

I'm hoping the bridgeport in my Rx-4 will have the same effect. What do you mean I was going that fast, listen to this thing. It bareley runs!

Siraniko 11-01-09 06:08 PM

bridge is nice. The blue RX-4 has a TII full bridgeport with duals into a racing beat universal muffler. thats the only way to go, other than a turbo, on a heavy ass RX-4
