Dellorto carb rebuild kit ordered, hope to run this on the side draft next

john smack 02-09-12 11:41 PM

Anyone know what color the tach wire is? I want to run it off the msd

Buggy 02-10-12 06:12 AM

I can't remember what colour it is, but it should be run to the ground side of the trailing coil. I'll look on my car and let you know the colour.

john smack 02-10-12 07:52 AM

Thanks buggy. I don't have any of the stock coil wires left but the 6 prong plug for it all is still there so I can't chase it to the trailing coil. Just need to know what color it would be at the coil harness plug

84stock 02-10-12 05:05 PM

Great to hear/see it running!

If I knew at the time that my camden would have bolted up to that engine i would have bought that rx4...

Buggy 02-11-12 05:45 PM

Just went out and looked. On my car the tach signal wire is green with an orange tracer. If you can get a hold of a wiring diagram that would be better though. I know some of the wiring is different between the 74-75's and the 76+ cars.

john smack 02-13-12 10:20 AM

Spent the weekend tieing up some loose ends, got the tach working, got the leading MSD in and wired up, soldered up a bunch of connections and shrink wrapped them, cut out un used wiring from under the hood, Clutch is all hooked up and feels good.

Now for the brake booster..... the studs are way too short. I was able to pull the studs from the clutch cylinder and put them in the fb clutch cylinder to make it work but the brake booster doesnt look like studs.

I'm not the best at explainig things but let me give it a try...

You have to cut off all 4 studs off the FB booster and extend them with long header bolts with same threads (see picture attached). When you cut off the studs on the booster leave some threads on the bottom.

Attachment 456456

Best thing to do before you cut the studs off is to screw in some nuts all the way down all 4 studs of the booster. Cut above the nut. This will give you the needed threads where the nut is screwed on. Screw off all 4 nuts half way to expose threads on the nuts. You then screw in the long header bolts to the exposed thread on the nut. Make sure they are straight. Tac them with your mig or tig so they don't move. Shave and round off the nuts a bit because they will not fit throught the aluminum spacer. I did have to enlarge the holes on the spacer as well.

Let me know if that helps.

Pretty much what I thought. Thanks migz

Rebuilt the Dellorto over the weekend. Got a tip from a buddy at work to use original pinesol and water 50/50 mix and let the carb sit in it over night. The carb came out looking like brand new. Got her all fired up and the only things that I cant seem to get to work is the temp guage and the clock. not bad but I dont want to really pull the dash out again

RX2fan 02-27-12 04:57 PM

Check the thing on the block that sends the temperature signal to the guage, it probably needs to be changed, or check the wiring, I doubt its the gauge itself.

Anyone know where the best spot to put a water/meth injector is with a camden setup?

john smack 03-08-12 02:10 PM

Well this weekend and begginning of the week I have been working on my car a little here and there. got the MSDs wired in for both leading and trailing, fixed the temp sensor, got the clock working and got the clutch all installed and working. Also cleaned up alot of wiring nicely loomed or rerouted. Fuel tank is plummed in for now, soon to swap to steel braided lines

Modgies!!!

I saw those rims advertised too, nice score.

Have you driven it yet since mounting the camden???

john smack 03-18-12 12:43 PM

No I have not driven it yet. Needs a drive shaft installed and everything to do with brakes from the booster to the pads. And my driveway is full of snow. This spring though

84stock 04-05-12 04:52 PM

Any updates??

john smack 04-06-12 10:48 AM

Yeah I put the drivetrain together and moved the car under its own power for the first time since 1980. Although it wasn't much of a drive due to the no brakes but it was rewarding.
After driving it I have to tighten the away bar nuts and I noticed I have to put all new rubber bushings and tie rod ends on everything. So now she sits with no front suspension in it. Until bushings come in.
