Hows the auto electrician making out?

Ash.B 04-13-13 12:58 AM

Taking a very long time Wildman923. I understand the wiring may have been tedious to remove my wiring and install his pre made loom but its taken a week now and he is still fixing a radiator pipe leak and my accelerator pump arm. I cant see why its taking so long but he did say it started up so fingers crossed next week some time I will have an update of worth and a running car with a nice bill to boot :D

How is your project?

Wildman923 04-13-13 07:57 AM

I'm slowly gathering a few more things before I get it out of storage and tear into the final push. Those include upgrading the fuel pump, better clutch, frame rails, boost control solenoid, flex fuel sensor, and a few other odds and ends. Pretty sure to say you'll be driving and enjoying yours before mines finished.

I am getting it weighed though to see how much it compares vs stock.

Ash.B 04-13-13 08:38 AM

Yea I will be weighing mine as well. I hope to have it done soon in time for winter drift practicing and if it works well I will go along the frame rail stiffening route as well as a full cage but engine wise I can only think of a larger street port and fuel injection with the stock S7 intake manifold. Ideally my overall aim would be a nice high revving rotor so something along the 10K RPM range if I can get it with lighter rotors and higher compression.

I still love your work, it sounds great so far

Here's something that should make you smile and further motivate you on your build:

Attachment 675460

1995, 13B-REW, Single Turbo conversion, AC / PS delete, maybe gallon of gas in the tank, With full interior + jack + spare tire, and stock steel wheels.

Ash.B 04-13-13 04:55 PM

^_^ that is great, I have removed the spare tire and have 16" wheels, but I have everything else still in there. Looks good that the weight is still low, I am working on the pounds to KG conversion correct :D I am hoping for similar except I have AC and PS without the turbo :D

The video I am loving at the moment

tinytyrant 04-13-13 06:32 PM

great vid. n/a sound was sweet.

Ash.B 04-13-13 07:49 PM

Sounds great. I just hope mine has a similar sound with a little quicker acceleration since that video looked a little on the slow side to accelerate

Update time:

Got a call from the tuner, everything thing has been fixed bar two things: the accelerator pump arm which he will replace tomorrow morning and the front cover oil outlet fitting which is leaking. Radiator leaks, throttle return spring, igniter module and belt tensioner have all been fixed and the igniter module was replaced since it was blown. Now I have a built in igniter in the Megasquirt ECU which clears up space in the engine bay and I wont have trouble with them since they are fairly robust Bosch BIP373 units.

Fingers crossed tomorrow he gets the accelerator pump arm and the oil outlet fitting, then its start up and dyno tune :D

Update time:

Was supposed to pick up the car this afternoon but alas my luck still sucks. After waiting since yesterday to get a exhaust manifold I thought that was the last thing needed doing and I would be set to get the car today, however as fate has it the exhaust gasket came in today and was put on by the tuner and started up perfect which was great until he went to put it in gear and found that the master cylinder does not have enough volume/displacement of fluid to release the clutch and let it go into gear :D great huh freaking crap. So I may go with a larger master cylinder or extend the stock rod to allow for more stroke, how much more displacement needed is unknown but he will work on it.

tinytyrant 04-16-13 07:54 AM

funny how the last little fiddly bits drag out the process.

keep on it. i can't wait to see vid of this little terrier.

Quick Question... Do you think a 13b-REW with the Twin Turbos would of fit?

nice vid, your one shouldn't be far away from completion now

Wildman923 04-16-13 09:58 PM

Make me wish I was on your side of the pond. Then maybe I could find a shop that'd willing to Dyno tune mine once I finish it.

Ash.B 04-17-13 12:42 AM

Why wont anyone dyno tune yours?

I have finally found that I needed a 3/4 clutch master cylinder as the Howe hydraulic release bearing clearly states which leaves me wondering why the mechanic that installed it didnt follow up and change the master cylinder initially. Such a complete waste of time and hassle but the auto electrician is fixing it and hunting for a 3/4 clutch master cylinder so fingers crossed I may have the car back soon :D

Wildman923 04-17-13 08:51 AM

Not sure if it's the familiarity with the Link ECU, the E85 (Flex Fuel Ability), or maybe they just think I'm bench racing with my "Rotary Miata".

Ash.B 04-18-13 02:48 AM

Well I dont see why people would be picky tuning a car since its money for them at the end of the day, silly people.

Update time:

I have found the FJ Landcruiser features a 3/4 clutch master cylinder and with a little modification it will work on the MX5 with hydraulic release bearing so that means I just may get the car back soon :D I used this link which helped me

Update time:

Just got home from.......picking the car up :D :D :D. Problem left to fix is that it leans to the point of light detonation on moderate load so new jets this coming week will fix that and re bleed the clutch as its a bit hard to get into gear.

Now onto the good points, it runs freaking sweet!! Really smooth on the power and response is amazing. The light load that I did manage to give it and it pulled very nicely, maybe not as fast as I expected but I know that this is a very light load with the throttle around the 30% mark. Sounds great for having an exhaust made without hearing the engine and its not overly loud with a nice pulse.

Video coming in the morning as I am tired and have to start early tomorrow reassembling the car :D

Ash.B 04-20-13 11:20 PM

Sorry for the crap video but at least you get to hear what a rotary sounds like when it finally runs out of gas :D

http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f2...ps1687f0ae.jpg

Power steering all bled and connected, tightened all the leaking coolant pipes and fitted the air filter which was causing the lean issue. Took it for a full drive under moderate to heavy throttle and it feels great, just so much character and feedback from the engine.

Wildman923 04-21-13 08:59 AM

your video link is a bit off, lets try:

Sounds great !!

Ash.B 04-21-13 01:21 PM

Sorry Wildman923. Still a few issues to go over and make sure there are no more oil and coolant leaks :D I am not getting any oil into the second rotor through the OMP line I made so I am not sure if a pocket of air would be the problem or the OMP not pumping properly? When revving it, the oil moves a little then just rests half way up the pipe and stops, any ideas?

whoop!

nice one. good idle note, would love to hear it buzzing around at pace.

tinytyrant 04-25-13 08:23 AM

also, why not just toss the OMP and just go 2-stroke oil into the fuel tank?
