My 82 rx626 efi 13b bp build
Well I finally got around into starting a new thread on my build. It all started a couple of years ago when I stumbled into a White 1982 Mazda 626 (rwd model) which was in pretty good shape, but it's 4 cylinder engine (boat anchor) had alot to be desired. Needless to say the first thing I did was remove the engine. I then mocked up a 13b and generated a crossmember out of an original 74 rx4 allthough it does not look like an rx4 crossmember anymore as you'll be able to see once I start posting pics. I then removed everything in the engine compartment and front end suspension and I am currently upgrading suspension and brakes and painting engine compartment. Once done up front I will move to rear end and do upgrades of suspension and brakes as well. Still way to much work to be done, but in no rush whatsoever. I have a vision/plan of what I want to accomplish which means not everyone will like or agree with my build, but after all it is my build. Now all I have to do is post some pics, that will be after I do some research on how to upload pics. So bare with me!

Pics!! lol looking forward to your progress

Sorry about the size of pics, they should be smaller for future updates.
|
Forgot something else NO IT IS NOT FOR SALE!
|
Currently waiting for struts to return from machine shop, cutting down to camber plate spacer size. I was lucky the Re-speed camber plate for a first gen rx7 fit like a glove. Waiting as well for strut housings which i'm adapting a mustang adjustable front coilover kit, can't quite remember who makes it nor the spring rate. Also in the middle of repainting wheel wells up front and engine bay. Will post pics soon as possible.
|
anyway to re-size them pics? they huge!! lol
|
I can make them bigger, you know bigger is mo betta. Lol I'm learning!
|

Machinest promised parts to be ready 28 May, but they still have to get powder coated and some welding before installation! Once parts in hand I will continue posting pics.
|
Luis, I'm glad to see you're finally working on the 626, I'll might have to come down and snap some pics for you one of this days.
|
I'll take you up on that! Khronus79

I have a buddy (Leith Ford) from Inglewood, CA that did this same build back in the late 80's only he dropped it in a 1980 626 I think.
BP built by Tri-point Engineering in Canoga Park, CA w/dual 40 Webers, aluminum flywheel limited-slip diff. That joker was fassssst! GL with the build. |

Darn the luck will have to redo paint in engine compartment and front wheel wells. Paint runs where everywhere, I believe my paint went bad from sitting for so long on shelf. Will have to buy more paint. I don't have before pictures, but once the after pics are available I will post. At least here are some pics of struts and their progress, but still have some welding and powdercoating to do.
Progress after some machining Coilover kit is from a mustang and the size of the spring was equal to that of the 626. The threaded part once in place (sleeves had to be machined for fit), it's half way point is exactly that of the stock 626 location giving me equal amount to raise or lower front end. Why did I need this you might ask, well car came with 13's and I will be placing 17's or 18's and I want to control the stance. Camber plates are for 1st gen rx7 made by Re-speed which fit perfectly (Just some machining of strut for spacer). Once complete I'll post pics of struts. |
This is exciting

I am very interested in the build. I have a 1975 fiat 124 spider that has a 12a in it. I am looking to build a 13b Briggie for it, and make it a fun weekend car. Please keep the pictures and details coming. I am very interested.
I will create a thread soon thanks again Doc |

Still working on front strut assy's. Hoping to get them powder coated as well as the engine cradle, soon. Once powder coated I will post before and after pics. I'm also looking into closing up my engine soon and I will post pics of that as well. Engine bay and front wheel well paint redo on hold. Whatever can't be finished by 07/03 will be continued on 08/01, I'll be out of town on long vacation!
|
We'll got items from powder coating here is a photo of one of the strut towers assembled:

Luis, nice progress but images are now too small.
Go to imageshack: http://imageshack.us/ get free account, upload pics and on the upload options set the image size to 800x600. Enjoy your vacation. |

bump! Having a good time on vacation!
|
I'm back getting ready to get busy!
|
nice project. i liked these 626s and would definitely put a rotary in it if i had one. i remember several moons ago, when i was a young, cocky kid with an Rx-7, i lined up against one of these cars with a 12A in it, and - long story, short - i got burned by it! he got off the line and there was nothing i could do to pull him back in. period.
i wish you success in completing this and can't wait to see it. |

Awaiting for ordered paint materials for engine compartment and wheel wells. Not much of an update, but it's the best I can do for now!
|
Well my paint materials are all in, now all I have to do is a notch on the engine bay driverside compact for better clearance of 2nd gen A/C compressor before re-painting engine bay and front wheel wells. I've been set back helping friends with their projects (86 n/a converted to turbo2 and 74 rx4 niether one is showing their progress on rx7 club), but thats what friends are all about!
|
Still trying to complete buddy's car, so that I can get it out of my driveway and bring the rx626 out for some paint on wheel wells and engine bay. Hopeing for more progress in near future.
|
Bump!
|
Removed my Rx8 wheels from storage to remove stock 245/40/18 tires and replace with some that will fit wheelwell of my rx626. In the process the wife decided she wanted them on our Mazda MPV i just hope I didn't loose them!

Thanks, but sorry no more pics till shes done. As of now it has a t2 block, t2 trans, and gsl-se rearend with coil-over se front suspension. It looks more done in the pic than it really is, its still in the mock-up stage. I did notice yours is a automatic and you said your going to convert. Do you have a pedal box from a manual? Or you going to do custom pedals? Also whats in your plans for the rearend? The rx7 dont bolt in and the stocker is a strange one with a offset diff, one axle really long the other really short. The only lsd diff that might work with that setup is 83 small axle gsl diff.

No. I saw it at the Markham Park/Churassco meet. Looks like a sleeper. Should be real nice when fully painted.
