I'm new to the REPU and need info
 

Anyone know of a good website to get specs on the REPU? How much weight can it carry and how can I get one?

I can't remember the sites, but if repuguru and I think Jeff20B also, doesn't beat me to it I will post the sites I have bookmarked at home.

To answer your other questions, the load capacity is about 1400 lbs and the only ways you can get one are to stumble upon it by accident or to look really long and hard for one.

Is the Tundra the full sized truck? I just found specs on it that say the payload capacity goes anywhere from 1300 to 2000 lbs depending on auto/manual or 2wd/4wd. Compared to most other small trucks the REPU has quite a high capacity.

That's why I smile whenever I drive mine, regardless of whether the bed is empty or not :)

Cool. Actually, the manual 4wd Tundra V6 was the one I was comparing it to. I guess it would be REALLY hard to find one of these trucks? I'd really like to get one to fix up and use for landscaping and transporting equipment. Any suggestions?

Can a REPU pull a 5X12 trailor with some landscaping equipment on it? I've seen the brochure with the airplane on a trailor, but the gross load capacity is under a ton, right?

I have towed a 1972 Toyota FJ40 LandCruiser. Which was about 4500lbs with all the 4X4 mods to the Cruiser. The REPU did not like stopping the beast. But it drug it for me anyway.
It will hold about 1400 -1500lbs. Which gives it the capacity of a 3-quarter ton truck. Mazda used a copy of the Ford 9" rearend in it.

So how much do you think it can pull? When you pulled that truck, did you have any trouble starting off on a hill or driving up a hill? The area that I'm in is particularly hilly and I will need something with enough power to pull the trailor and some equipment. Thanks. :)

I think the REPU is geared low enough to tow just about anything up any hill. I don't think it is a question of "if" it will tow the weight but a question of how fast, or more accurately, how slow will it tow the weight up the hill. I haven't towed anything but I have hauled about 500 lbs plus a passenger a couple times and I could notice a slight decrease in straight-line performance, I think another 500 pounds would be all right but if you have much more than 1000 pounds the going might start to get a little slow. The fix for that is drop a TurboII engine in there :D

Nah, If I had one, I'd keep the original engine in it. I've gotta find one of these awesome trucks!

Hey dude, I think it's safe to say that it'll be able to support your lawn care business. LOL TII would kick major ass in that thing.

I have a 77 with an RX4 flywheel a 3.4 1st gear and a 3.9 rear gear. It doesn't like uphill towing starts. I have to slip the clutch some. It will drag a trailer uphill no problem. You just have to slip the clutch a little more. This is the one I towed the FJ40 with.
I had a 74 with a 17lb steel flywheel, a 3.68 1st gear and a 4.6 rear gear. It didn't care what you hitched to it. It would pull it. Up hill or down hill. You may have to slip the clutch a little more than a piston motor, but thats the nature of the motor.
If you drive and tow on hills alot then an automatic may be the best option. I want to convert mine to an automatic one day. With the 74 gear.
A friend of mine has about 250,000 miles on the tranny in his auto REPU. He towed a tandem axle race trailer with a full tire rack and a GT3 RX3 around for the S.E. back in the 80's and early 90's. It didn't care about what it had behind it. Or the 1000lbs worth of jacks, tool boxes, coolers, fuel cans, pit bike, spares, in the bed. They also ran the AC while towing to the races.

I guess what I am saying is the REPU is equipt to do the job. Some are just more equipt than others.

Was that steel flywheel stock on the 74? The old 13B's seem to last pretty long, from what I've gathered. Since these trucks are so old, would they be tested for smog? Where can you get parts for them? Reason I ask is that if I go down to my local auto parts store and say, "I need a tail-light lens for my 74 Mazda Rotary Pickup", they'd probably be like, "Huh?"

Anyway, I'm still looking for one because I'll be getting some big jobs soon that will require me to haul my stuff over fairly long distances.

Anyone know of any REPU's floating around Kentucky? I have this silly dream of pulling my 80 to the autocrosses with one, and reading about the other guy pulling his RX-3 just made the itch worse.

well... I am currently living in Louisville. I visit my brother pretty regularly in Lexington, and I am originally from Eddyville (about 30 minutes from Paducah)and get down there about twice a quarter to check on the house and farm. So where are those REPU's hiding?:D
