Nice! You got a CD Cosmo. Does your car have any RX-5 badges? Or do they all say Cosmo? Mine all say Cosmo. Even the sticker under the hood says RX-4 - Cosmo. As far as I know, there were no RX-5s outside of Australia (that's because they didn't get the REPU).

Have you seen the pics of mine on my web page? There's just a few. If you have any specific questions, I can probably help you out.

Magnus Berglund 12-06-03 07:13 AM

Jeff > It was sold as "Rx5" here but as far as I know it had the "Cosmo" badges.

Posted som more on it in the Euro forum..

Mazda CD

All Mazda CD rotary cars sold in Europe were badged RX-5. The 4-cylinder cars were badged 121. Almost all CDs sold in Europe were of the first version with angular rear lights, in fact, I'm not sure that the facelifted version with straight rear lights came to Europe at all.

Bo

Show me an RX-5 badge. Pretty please? :)

KKM 12-07-03 08:38 AM

RX-5 badge

Jeff20B,

Sorry, I mixed up the cars and the sales brochures!! The latter were "badged" RX-5 for Europe. Thanks for pointing this out.

BR,
Bo

Jeff20B 12-07-03 02:14 PM

Oh, ok. I doubt Mazda ever made an RX-5 badge.

John McBeth 12-07-03 07:52 PM

Here is a photo of a RX-5 emblem. This is from a catalog that I think is from the UK (England). The catalog was printed in Japan, the text is in english and the specifications are UK/European. Don't know if the production cars ever had these on them but the cars in the catalog do.

gradedcheese 12-07-03 09:16 PM

wow!!!

Jeff20B 12-08-03 01:04 AM

Wow! I wonder if that's as rare as the Amati badge?

KKM 12-09-03 12:17 PM

Amati badge? How does that look?

BR, Bo

Updated my site now with some more text on the Rx5.

Nice badge!

Jeff20B 12-09-03 03:42 PM

I think only DMRH knows about the Amati.

I'll check out the site.

MikeLMR 12-10-03 02:57 PM

Wow not seen one of these outside of OZ before ! Fantastic looking car ... coupe's are cool !

Magnus Berglund 12-25-03 05:18 AM

The Rx5 had "Rx5" badges in sweden.. sorry I got it wrong before..
I think I've located a set for my car.

Just found me a set of stock aluwheels as well.

Jeff20B 12-25-03 03:27 PM

I'd like to get some aluminum rims for my car. Good find!

Magnus Berglund 12-26-03 02:31 AM

All Swedish cars had the aluwheels, so I had a few options..
I payed 800sek or 110USD for a set.

hey guys, nearly all markets except for US and JAPAN were marketed as RX-5. with option of 12A & 13B in japan. exports markets all 13b as far as i am aware. series 2 was japan only car with 13B. piston versions in most countries were 121 or 121L for the landau version. will post link soon for all pics ever needed. too much info to type i'm pissed.......mine is in process of getting 20B. amati was a division under development in early nineties to compete with lexus/infiniti. had 2-3 cars to concept stage and one was computer design only. was killed off due to mazda $$$ troubles and difficulty in marketing 3 divisions. mazda, eunos, amati.....WTF were they thinking.

Jeff20B 12-31-03 08:22 AM

I almost put a 20B into my Cosmo. I decided to leave it stock due to its decent condition. I'd rather not cut it up.

The 20B in NA form could have found its way into more cars if Mazda didn't make so many dumb marketing decisions. Even FWD rotaries could easily have been a reality; and I'm not talking about the other dumb idea of making the 13A with the eccentricity etc all different from the 10A, 12A 13B, 15A engine family. The 13A was as short as possible, which seems unnecessary in a longitudinal engine/transaxle setup. Can you say VW Dasher? The Audi had an inline 5 in the same arrangement. Talk about length! What I was talking about a few sentences up is a transverse mounted rotary. Plugs-up seems to work in airplanes, so a rotary mounted like most FWD four cylinder engines is very doable.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I have finally started working on the car for real!

Here are some images....

Cool! Looks like mine under the hood. I'd like to convert mine to a manual tranny. The auto sucks.

Magnus Berglund 04-13-07 11:21 AM

This project has gone nowhere....
I'm close to selling it actually.

Good news is there is a new rotaryproject on the way in! :)

Jeff20B 04-13-07 11:44 AM

I'm very close to installing a manual in mine; finally have all the parts. I should rebuild the engine too.

Good luck with whatever you do.

Magnus Berglund 04-13-07 01:04 PM

Looking forward to the "how to" on that!

I think I've seen it here but I think I might need it :)
