Found some before pic's of the Bugeye and figured I show where this all began. It sure was a turd. Now I'm almost finished the wiring and I should be ready to fire in a few week. (FingersX)

Really, great I'll take it out of the bucket and polish her up. Thanks.

Went with the pointless dizzy & need help!

I have a some wiring issue and could uses some help. I had stripped all the 1959 wiring from the car and installed a pre-wired 12 circuit EZ wiring harness. Well I now have the dizzy and coils See Pic's) but only have a single power wiring from the igintion switch which feeds a coils and jumps to a dizzy in this harness. I guess this is a piston motor type dizzy set. Anyways my problems is how do I hook up the dizzy/ignitors and coils to this wiring harness. Any advice would help as I'm trying to get this thing fired up before winter sets in. Also what do I do with the little condenser wire that on the side of the dizzy. Thanks. Dave

Jeezus 09-26-09 09:08 PM

Hey Dave, I got your message, Sent you a PM.

Looks like you have the later Dizzy with the J109's on it.

The little wire is for the condenser. You can hook it up to anything that has positive power, it basically emits an electromagnetic field to help reduce electronic noise. I took it off my dizzy.

Jeezus 09-26-09 09:42 PM

Hopefully this will clear it up a bit for you, I think I got what you meant:

Stu, that looks great man! I can do that. What gauge wire should I use. I should be able to make this set-up with stuff from autozone. Also, my alt has a big power cable and the two small wiring coming from a single connector. Are these the warning light wires? I'm not sure where they go to or if I need them? Thanks for the help I'll be wiring it up tomorrow. One more thing, I don't see a flat spot on my flywheel, like you mention in your other thread. I'm still not sure if I'm at TDC as the pulley was removed. Sorry for all the questions but this is my first rotary and I don't want to F it up. Thanks. Dave

I am not too sure on the flywheels on the 2nd gen cars. The flat spot on the flywheel is more like a capital D, just line up the l part of the D with the intake side. Snap a few pictures if you can, and I will do some rooting around for answers.

The big fat power cable wire connects to the + of the battery, but runs through the main fuse in between.

I am looking at the schematics on the small plug, it looks like one of the wires goes to the ignition switch, and the other goes to a choke and check relay. I am not too sure on this last bit, as I am looking at the diagram for a first gen. Let me know what colors the wires are and I can find out for you.

EDIT: As for the gauge wiring, I am told that when you splice or lengthen a wire, go with a one-size bigger gauge wire than the original wire.

Bugeye RX 09-26-09 10:56 PM

Great, I'll get back to you with some of flywheel and wire color and up the wire size for the slice. I think there is a D shaped lobe cast on the flywheel but its a backwards D with the ( part on the out side and I part towards the center. I'll snap a pic and send tomorrow.

Dizzy

Hey Stu, hows things. Well I went out to mess with the dizzy today. I found out the the pulley on this model has indexed bolts and can only go on one way. So I set the pin to the mark and noted the following: The D on the fly wheel is on the spark plug side. I pulled the original dizzy and the alignment marks match. See pic's. I'm figuring this is TDC but I'm not sure. What do you think. Also I added a pic of the Alt wires and the hayes diagram. The wire clors are brown with yellow stripe with blue dots and black with white stripe and brown dots. I'm still not sure what to do here either. Any help would be great. Thanx, Dave

You have the same alternator I have! I am downloading the FSM for the 2nd gens, I will get back to you on that.

The dizzy is good to go. Put the rotor button on it before you put it in the engine, and use that to keep the gear from missing a tooth.

Jeezus 09-27-09 06:54 PM

Did some digging. On the 2nd gens the pully marks are not like the first gens. First gen's have the TDC mark (leading mark), where the 2nd gens have marks at -5 and -20.

To find TDC for 2nd gen's you pull both plugs on the rear housing. Use a mirror and a flashlight to look into the trailing plug hole. The hole will be small, but what you are trying to do is get an apex seal RIGHT over the trailing hole. When you get that, make a mark on the pully. Now rotate the engine so that the SAME apex seal is now in the middle of the leading spark plug hole. Make a mark on the pully. Now measure halfway between the two marks you just made and that is TDC.

I am looking up the alternator wiring now, get ya an answer within the hour.

Ok so once I find that mark and have it set, all I have to do is set the match marks on dizzy and install with marks inline with mark on the left center of housing?

Jeezus 09-27-09 07:27 PM

Ok, looking at the diagram the B/W(F) goes to the ignition 1 circuit, and the W/B(E) comes from the Alternator warning light.

Take a look at this and make sure I am making sense. I deal with mostly 1st gens:

Correct. :)

Jeezus 09-27-09 07:32 PM

And your dizzy doc you sent up came up blank.

Bugeye RX 09-27-09 08:20 PM

Stu I looked at that diagram. Didn't see a non turbo manual tranny charging diagram. But the A/T did have the wiring you stated. One of my wires is a different color. instead of W/B I have a Brown/Yellow wire. Don't know if this matters. Anyway I guess the B/W is iggy. So I'll go with B/Y for light. what do you think

Bugeye RX 09-27-09 08:23 PM

The dizzy doc was just a pic of dizzy hole just wanted to make sure the mark on the housing across from the dizzy hold down bolt hole.

Bugeye RX 09-27-09 08:55 PM

Yo JG when you going to post some pic's of your bugeye, I'd love to see it. V/R Dave

The wiring is turning out to be a long process. I'm currently doing the dash and dizzy's. Hopefully I'll finish up this week.

Coming along sweet. will love hear it when you fire up:icon_tup:

Thanks Trini, I post some vids once its up and running.

Jeezus 10-11-09 08:22 PM

That wiring is looking beautiful! What painless kit did you end up getting?

Keep up the good work :)
