if you ever get rid of this car look me up. It is my dream to restore one of them.

Everyone,

Pics from yesterday's Southwest Unique Little Car show. This was the first public showing of Glenn and Valerie's newly acquired 1967 110S Cosmo Sport. Absolutely pristine. The car supposedly has less than 7K actual miles. See for yourself. I was lucky enough to be there!

Pic of 10A engine builder Ricardo Porta picking up Pam and Paul's motor to transport back to his shop in the LA area and begin the restoration process.

stevensimon 04-07-06 08:42 AM

holy cow that is some good stuff right there. now i want a 110s

CERAMICSEAL 04-08-06 10:45 PM

This is my first time reading this thread and it is very interesting to me. I've driven a 110S before that belonged to my boss, Jim Downing. It had the original un-opened motor in it and drove like a dream. Engine builder Rick Engman had just gone through the carb, cleaning and re-jetting for today's fuels. The car was featured in Car and Driver magazine shortly thereafter. Rick built an L10A for another Cosmo owner some years ago and is a great candidate for the job but I see thta's already being addressed. The other weird thing is the Curtis Wright car was offered to me back in the early to mid 90s. It belonged to a guy from New Jersey at the time who told me he would take $15k or a trade for a 3rd gen 7. I wish I had jumped on that deal. I love those cars.

CERAMICSEAL 04-08-06 10:49 PM

One more thing; Jay Leno bought one not too long ago (Last year or something) and had Mazdatrix handle the engine aspect. I think they put a 13B in it. Yikes!

Thanks for the correction. My personal preference for a classic like that is as much originality as possible but that's just me.

I'm with you CERAMICSEAL. It would be nice if Jay had put an original 10A in there, but as difficult as 10A parts are to find, it would have been a challenge for him to complete. As it is, it will be a major challenge for us to help Pam and Paul complete their engine. Secondly, Jay likes to DRIVE his cars, so the 12A should work a little better for him. I'm not sure why they opted for the 12A instead of the 13B. If you can't complete the car with "original" stock parts why not put in the hottest setup available. Heck... probably could have even got a Renesis to work in there, which really would have been interesting!!

Yes, Rick Engman was referred to us as well, but since Ricardo is only a 5 hour drive away and came highly recommended we decided to go with him.

As a side note, Glenn Roberts is trying to establish a worldwide registry for Cosmo Sports and has started the website mazdacosmosport.com. Everyone, please direct anyone you know who owns a Cosmo Sport to this website for registration. I know there aren't too many out there, but suprisingly the Japanese club owners don't even have a good website with records on the few remaining cars that are still "active." At least we haven't been able to locate the information.

I saw Jay's gorgeous cosmo in Popular Mechanics and wondered exactly the same thing. Hell, had I his financial fortitude, I would have opted for a three rotor configuration... ( ;

In the past our Japanese bretheren have been known to go to great lengths to find or make some hard to acquire parts for Rick-San. That's one reason alone that Jay too should have considered him, but then again, this too is my biased opinion.

This is soo sweet i really appreciate the efforts you are making to keep us updated on this restoration. I know that the motor is probably done now however i would love to see detailed pics of it prior to going back in as well as any detailed pics of it broken down. I know a couple of guys talked about Jay Leno's engine, I don't think that there was a 10a with that car when he got it, I may be wrong on that though.

If you have any contacts with Japanese rotor heads supposedly this is one of the only cars that mazda supports

So what is going on with Glenns new/old Cosmo? Is he showing it or fixing it up?

DMRH 06-15-06 06:17 AM

Great news on the re-build. So cool to read about another getting saved.......

Just a question...

Is it a JDM Cosmo-sports or an export version 110S........??

As Mazda didn't get a rotary export license until 1969, this 1967 example must be the L10A version Cosmo sports

.

John McBeth 06-15-06 12:55 PM

There are two 1967 cars in which one is a 110S and the other is a "Cosmo." Dosen't get much better than that! The totally stripped car is the Cosmo.
