Thanks! I need to paint of few pieces yet in the engine bay for it to look excellent. The distributor caps are newer black versions and as well as the blue spark plug wires. If or when I show the car I will replace these with the original green caps and black wires. The car runs fantastic with these newer parts though.

Everyone,

Well, I know it's been a while since I've given you an update, but here are the latest pics. As you can see, the body has been complete stripped and Glenn Roberts from Finishing Touch Body shop in Fountain Hills, AZ is personally overseeing the restoration. Plans are to have a completed car for Sevenstock 9, so keep your fingers crossed and hope that it happens. Soon we should have a list of parts to add to our "Wish List," so I'll post that list once we have a good idea on what's required!

Wow I didnt know that restoration was going ahead so quickly. I'll have to check the big forum more often. Good to know that its going so well.

Sweet. Hopefully our RX-7s will one day acheive collector status and people will be doing full restorations instead of hacking them up. The 1st gens are starting to get there.

I can't wait to see more of the progress.

That's awesome man! I saw my first Cosmo at last year's Sevenstock. Good luck, and keep up the pics!

A cosmo L10b (1972 - the last of them) started a resto process over this side of the world. Biggest issue was the motor - as the end plates are made of Aluminum, the side seals had done some damage, which will be very difficult to repair... the rotor housings were chuck-away with major cracks through the spark plug holes. Parts come up in Japan, but it would be easier and cheaper to use an RX3 / R100 10a block.

I am running a 10a in my RX3, wonderful motor, rev's like there is no tomorrow

Sorry for such a long break in my posts guys. Here are a few new pics from the late October timeframe. Hope to get some more progress pics in the coming weeks. Progress has been pretty slow due to shop backups and other priorities. Note that some "yellow" spots on the interior appear to be rust, but in fact it's some type of undercoating. Glenn noted that in stripping certain areas of the car it appears that the vehicle was painted a light yellow at some point in it's life. Should be interesting to see more once the stripping process commences full bore.

Chamele03 01-12-06 01:08 AM

oh god, I want one, and I love learning new things..... I always assumed that the mounts for a 10a where on the front, and that it would have had the starter over the engine.

but to reinerate, I WANT ONE

lutherx7 01-13-06 06:21 PM

We here in Phoenix are really lucky to have this car here in the valley. Not only that but to have it restored locally by someone who owns and has done a restoration on Mazda's first car ever.

This is an amazing thread. I love it! Growing up my dad had a yellow RX-2 coupe and my mom drove a silver RX-3 wagon so these vintage Mazdas are very dear to me. I still have two REPU's, one driver and one project.

As recent as 2001 I lived in Iwakuni JAPAN while in the Marine Corps. Our base was only about 40 minutes away from Hiroshima so I was literally in the Motherland. Some local friends knew I was a rotary nut (they were into Nissans) so one day on our way to a local drift track they took me to a small roadside used car dealership. I was wondering what we doing there when they introduced me to the owner. They were busy translating between the two of us. I was getting excited just checking out all the cheap deals on modified RX7's when the old honcho motioned me to the back of the lot. There he had an original 110 Cosmo in pretty decent shape. I was busy drooling when he drags me about four cars over to an even cleaner Cosmo sitting under a car cover.

I had met a native rotary nut decades older than me and for a moment it was like we were speaking the same language. He was surprized a young gaijin even knew about these old Mazda's, let alone was so enthusiastic about seeing some. That was a great day!

If I find myself with some disposable income in the near future I'm heading right back over to Iwakuni and bringing one back!
