Hey, everyone

Ive been away from the rotary community for a while now and glad to be back. Just bought a 91 Cosmo from Jamel, he had it posted on here. Some good pics are on here https://www.japaneseclassics.com/veh...nos-cosmo-20b/.

Im going to be starting to modifing it soon, dont have any crazy plans for it. It had 19" lowenhart rims on it but I changed them to 17" Enkei RPF1's, and discovered the Autoexe spring.

I took off the rain gaurds and broke the DS A pillar, will post pics later, so if anyone has one I'd appreciate it.

Thanks and enjoy I will be update as I get parts and put them on.

LoneStarS30Z 02-27-17 03:58 PM

Nice job getting rid of those 19's!

bwahl5184 02-27-17 04:16 PM

Thanks.

Saw them on an Fd and really liken them. Got the 17x8's, no plans on racing the car so no need to go bigger or offset. Ive read your post on your cosmo, good job, took a lot of insperation from it on my plans for mine. Would love to have access to all the stuff you did from being in Japan.

LoneStarS30Z 02-27-17 04:31 PM

Thanks, I'm actually back in America now. I can still find some things, but just isn't cheap anymore.

bwahl5184 02-27-17 04:44 PM

I like the Autoexe intake and chasis braces you have. Found the intake online for $780+ shipping but not luck so far on the braces. Will FD or FC coilovers work on this car also looking to up grade the brakes. Any recommendations? Thanks

LoneStarS30Z 02-27-17 05:11 PM

The intake can still be bought new from Yahoo Auctions Japan, definitely isn't cheap but it's the only quality option (I wouldn't consider an open filter a good idea).

The braces are no longer made, I sent mine off to Australia to be reproduced for a very limited run. If you're on Facebook, join Cosmo Owners Group and ask if anyone is willing to sell their set.

As far as I know FC/FD coilovers won't work, although I don't know anyone that has tried before.

For brake upgrades, K-Sport makes a BBK as well as another company called XYZ, and I'm using a Z32/R32 caliper with a bored out JZA80 brake disk and custom brackets from this website:

Got my Rotary Compression Tester yesterday, it's more of a luxury item than a necessity. Will help me keep an eye on the health of the engine. Nice looking packaging and semi rigid cloth case. Was looking around the car and saw this hole in the center console. Any ideas of what it could be?

LoneStarS30Z 02-28-17 06:42 PM

There's a RGB plug in that goes there (like the old TV hook ups for your Playstation 1), I'm not sure what it actually connected to it though, so it wasp pretty useless.

bwahl5184 02-28-17 10:57 PM

oh ok, thats weird. I opened it up but must have been removed because there was nothing there.

bwahl5184 03-05-17 11:15 PM

couple of updates.

received the premix and started using it. I never used premix on any of my RX-7's but I figured I'd give it a go. Want to keep the engine happy and healthy as long as I can. Nice package from Rotary Bum.

I also received my Carbing cooling cover and finally got around to putting it on. I like the way it looks, dont have that big hole anymore.

Man nice! I'll be keeping an eye on the standalone install. I really wish someone made a PnP harness for us.

bwahl5184 03-06-17 10:03 PM

Its Official I have a NV registered JC Cosmo. :bluesuit: I registered it as a classic vehicle so I don't have to worry about smog test, but can only drive it 5000 miles a year.

Yeah, it would be nice if they made a PnP for the cosmo, but at least my harness will be new and have room on the ecu for additional inputs.

We have a forum member's cosmo in our shop that we are working on an Adaptronic Modular PNP solution for cosmo owners.

I know, or should I say, a big number of worldwide Cosmo owners know. We've been keeping an eye on it, but not a lot of info seems to have come out since you guys first announced building a harness.

Recent projects

A couple of small projects I had on the car.

First was replacing the hood struts, you can check that out here. https://www.rx7club.com/old-school-o...truts-1113449/

Second was I had a custom steering wheel made. I wanted to keep the stock functionality of the audio controls and all. But also update the look of it. Its from a Mazda 6 and fits the spline perfectly. First had to find power and ground to get the lights working, easy enough. The stock buttons had just a single ground for the buttons so just connected that with the new one. For the other buttons I had to wire in each button to the board. There were small holes with contact points that I used to solder the wires on. I thought that the resisters would be enough for it to work, but didn't. So I had to break them off the board to open the circuit. I used some silicon RTV to protect the solder points, wires and the open circuit where the resisters were. Every thing works great, vol+/-, preset up/down, mode=radio, and mute=AM/FM. The horn was simple enough just had to find what wire made it work then connected it to the new steering wheel using its wire/connector. For the control box, it had holes in the back side of it that almost perfectly lined up with the back cover. I just had to remove some material and adjust one hole to the right.

As for the CC I wasn't sure if it would work, so I just connected to wires together and tested it. For the most part it works, on/off=cancel, cancel=set/coast, res/accel and set/coast both = accel.

I also Had some custom center caps made for the car. They turned out really well. Will have to fid the pic I took installed or take a new one.

I know it cost more going custom on the steering wheel and caps, but its the best way to get things just the way you want. Plus its the little things that make a big difference.

Here is where I got the steering wheel and caps. Both are completely customizable.

Steering Wheel MAZDA 3 and 6 . SPORT STYLE FLAT BOTTOM !EXTRA PADDING | eBay

ENKEI RPF1 / TOYOTA GT 86/ SUBARU BRZ Wheel Center caps 18 OPTIONS | eBay

If you want anymore info or pics on the steering wheel install just ask.

LoneStarS30Z 04-19-17 03:28 PM

You should post your steering wheel progress on the Cosmo Owners Group on Facebook too. I know other guys have always wanted to do the same since the stock wheel is friggin huge.

steering wheel

Just did thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, its not much smaller but the flat bottom defiantly helps with the leg room and just looks awesome.

We decided it would be easiest to have a mass produced harness with a few modifications, rather than making a smaller run of 20B cosmo only harnesses.

We got with Rywire and had them update their FD single turbo harness to accomdate all the extras for the Adaptronic modular FD PNP ecu. This also includes a sub ignition harness for direct fire upgrades. We have a prototype unit enroute to us if I just read his email correctly.

So we are going to use the FD PNP ECU, reconfigure the software for a 20B, and add the extra wires for the last rotor's fuel & ignition. We were able to get the cosmo wiring diagram translated into English while we waited.

We've got the fuel system & new ignition system( 6 IGN1A coils) finished on the cosmo, including a new bolt in radiator. Going to fab up the turbo system and exhaust next week.

pnp ecu

That sounds great, thanks for the update. Looks good. I and a lot of cosmo owners would love a translated wire diagram. Are you considering selling them? That's the biggest thing keeping me from building my harness for the 1280 I have.

LoneStarS30Z 04-20-17 02:17 AM

That is badass, a PnP setup would be a godsend.

RockLobster 04-20-17 09:59 AM

Some fantastic work! Cool find on that wheel!

Turblown: You guys can sure post more pics in the build thread. Dont be shy. :D

center caps

Here are the caps installed on the wheel. To have them made I took this pic and told them what color I wanted and for it to say 20B instead of RX7.
