Lil update

Had to get some brackets done up for the 8.8 rear end and dropped it off at cooks machine shop in east Los Angeles,a week later got it back done.they shortened to our needed length and welded the brackets up for us.we are just waiting on the traction lok 31 spline diff, gears, bearing kit,and the new axles to arrive so we can start putting the diff housing together.

Going to start to install the new bushings on all the diff mounting bars so everything can be ready for when we receive the rest of the parts.

Also got the engine rotor housings back from getting some work done to them:egrin:

Need to clean up the semi p port, port the exhaust, and find some turbo II exhaust sleeves.

Rear end looks bullet proof, so how difficult was it to go with the 8.8? What's it off?

turbo_dave 06-12-13 04:30 AM

Hardest part was having the brackets made.cooks machine shop did good work on the housing and welding in the brackets, but didn't want to deal with making the brackets themself which is why I had to draw them up and have a water jet cutting place make them for me.it just takes money to do all this but worth it if running high horsepower turbo motors.diff housing is a 8.8 of a mustang, but with stronger and beefier 31 spline internals.

Cool, thanks for the insight Dave! Not running high horses here, but looking at sturdier than stock options, if any.

I'm working on a similar build. What type of motor will you be dropping in. What type of crossmember set up will you be using.

turbo_dave 04-03-14 08:15 PM

It's a 13b Cosmo RE motor.
Stock engine crossmember

egrx2 04-04-14 09:42 AM

I have a banana style xmember. Is that what you have? If so how will you be mounting engine? I will be dropping in a TII motor with tranny and dont want to hack it. Based on your pics your work is on point. Lookong for some recommendations.

Your help is appreciated.

The car has stock banana looking crossmember.im using the stock engine bracket but I'm sure I'm gonna have to make a custom transmission mount but no biggie.

Cars looking pretty sad and still at the body shop!

My bro decided to flare the fenders just a tiny smudge so it clears the rear tires, but doing the rear means they gotta do the front to be the same.we will put a bigger outer lip on the bbs wheels up front.

egrx2 04-10-14 10:30 AM

When you say stock engine bracket I am assuming you mean from an old school motor..Hence you will also change front cover to go with bracket.

That said with the S4/S5 motors and newer they come with electronic oil metering pumps (EOMP) on the front covers. Since you will have to replace front cover how will you take care of electronic oil metering pump? Do you have to bypass EOMP so it doesnt throw your ecu into limp mode? Or how will you address?

I an new to this so I apologize if I am asking way to many questions.

Your advice is appreciated! Thank You

turbo_dave 04-10-14 12:11 PM

Yes same stock motor engine bracket.
Using a gsl-se front cover and oil pan.
No need to worry about the electric omp as I'm running the gsl-se mechanical unit and will also be running a haltech Ecu.

RX2-Mazda-Fan 04-10-14 02:57 PM

Wow... that flare is going to look badass.

jasrx4 04-12-14 11:32 AM

Before the rear tire was sticking out about 3/4",now it sits flush with the rim.time for bigger outer lips up front and a fatter tire out back.

rx2t 04-23-14 12:32 AM

That is serious surgery going on there. Looking good!

RX2-Mazda-Fan 04-25-14 07:01 PM

That's going to look sick when done, how much did it flare?
