also, im curios to know if you left the 6 port sleeves in or removed them. and if you removed the sleeves did you fill in the end of the 6th port with JBweld or Devcon to make the trasition nicer?

did you do any work to the runners? shaping them at all? enlarging them? would you post pics of them?

thanks!

The irons were ported, runners were slightly ported but more smoothed than anything. The 6 port sleeves were left in and are still operated, I would never take them out, I would rather lock them in the open position, air flows more efficiently through them that way and they already have a "fillet" to channel air into the chamber. When left open you loose considerable power/torque below 6000 rpm because of charge reversal. Above 6000-6500rpm they increase power considerably. An custom electronic controller is used to control the the motor/servo that controls them and it is actuated via RPM from the Microtech out put.

theres a guy on rx8club that has had a bridged renesis for a little while now. other than the bridge, its stock though.

i been trying to get people into the renesis for a while now. i believe the renesis is the future of rotarys.

i have a renesis that im building for nitrous in a 2nd gen. i been debating weather to semi-pp it or do a bridge. i been leaning towards the semi-pp... and the plan is to have it do low 11's and be strett driven.

either way, i'll need some nice seals to go with it. what do your seals run for a set? and maybe a template for the bridge port?

also, did you cut into the rotor housing at all for the bridge? it dosnt look like it in the pic. but you said the porting was half done anyways...

nice work!

Yes there is a notch in the housing. A considerable one, it only leaves about .5-1.0mm of "meat" between the notch and the O-ring. Otherwise there wouldn't be much bridge or port there since the stock Renesis ports are opened so far outwards.

Unfortunately I didn't use a template nor did I make one, I just took lots of measurements to figure out where the seals rode.

I am not allowed to post a price for the apex seals here because I am not a vendor of this forum but you can pm me and I will let you know.

Best regards,

Chris

i'm interested to hear what kind of results you have with the air to water intercooler.
this is a street car right?
so how big of an exchanger is there to prevent heat soak?

i'm just looking for a little advice, because i would like to run a w/a intercooler, but am a little sketched out by the different things i hear..

anyways, thank you.

nice job but the 'brap' isn't as distinct as other bridgeports i've heard at idle. besides i always thought it was more the overlap of intake/exhaust that gave the 'brap' rather than the type of port itself.

This setup doesn't have any heat soak. It works at steady state at about 10-15 Degrees above ambient temp. The Heat exchanger is 27" X 7" X 2" and its split flow down the middle meaning that the water flows through the top 3.5" of core all the way across and then it returns on through the bottom 3.5" of core. The hoses are 3/4" and the pump flows 500gph.

It work great...even in traffic....if you sit in traffic the temps actually go down since the pump keeps circulating water at the same rate and the heat exchanger has a fan that runs constantly.

I don't have an ice box or reservoir, none is needed with a properly designed system unless you are planning on drag racing.

The bridge port on the RX-8 does generate overlap, its just not as much as a REW engine because of how early the exhaust port closes on the renesis. But it does create some overlap, hence the less intrusive "brap".

NICE Job!!!
Im passing this thread over to my boy on 8club.... hes making around 350 on a Mazport turbo set up...

But he plans on porting another motor and turbo-ing that, for more power....

Nice man, keep it up.

i've known about your car for some time now, but i'm not sure how i missed this thread. needless to say, i like it. i've been a fan of your car for quite some time, too.

I got to ride in this thing at my 10 year high school reunion. I saw him pull up, we bull shitted rotaries for a minute and then I got punched in the face by the power of this thing. Fucking rocket!

Nice car Chris!!

ssspeedfreak 04-07-11 07:27 PM

Chris will you be porting engines at your new shop regularly?

hkp 04-07-11 08:32 PM

grab a shotgun we got a zombie thread!

ssspeedfreak 04-11-11 10:37 PM

Yea back from the dead but much has changed for Chris, for the better!
