Hi all, Its been a while since I have been on, mostly because I had to sell my rx7's for rent.

Anyways, like the title subject, i would like to perform a social experiment.

here is my idea.

I want a project to do, and i was thinking of putting another 7 on the road. I had some help with my silver gsl-se, and it is in a good persons hand, running and is his daily driver!!!

so as everyone knows, we are all strapped for cash,

what im purposing is if anyone can help me, i would like to build a super-low-cost rx7. I'm talking about getting free parts, or super cheep parts.

1st, or 2nd gen.

I have an 13b GSL-SE engine in unknown condition, I have compression on all 6 sides. from turning it over with a ratchet, it is said to smoke, but im not gonna call this engine dead until i run it for a while,.

I also have a good size cooler with random 1st gen gizmos.
I also have some 2nd gen engine wiring harness.

so this is my plan and goal.

find out what people are willing to sell, or donate.
finish cleaning out my garage to make room for this project, if it takes off.(pissing off the wife in the proses. LOL)
and begin the build.
I will probably try some sort of get-together every few weeks to help, if others are interested.

also i don't have every tool in the book, so I may need to borrow some for a day or so, when the situation arises, and this would be a good excuse to get some tools. LOL


Also im in Vancouver in the Hazel dell aria. so im Portland metro for parts, i dont have a truck ether. IF anyone delivers I could pitch in for gas. I have a job now, but money is still tight for the time being.

I want to get another 7 on the road, and im asking for help.

I've been studying Life for like 50 years..it Sucks just as much as it did ..well 50 years ago..lol!..But George Carlin makes me laugh.!

no no, you get me wrong, I have no car and no tools. LOL. I'm trying to see if someone has a shell for cheep, or free, then what it would take to get it on the road. for.. free.

I'm trying to see if the members on this fourm would like to help me rebuild a car with donated parts, to get another rx7 on the road. we all know someone that has a shell, or parts laying around. its rotor-hording. LOL

I want a free car too! sign me up.

I'm with this guy. I'm guessing a lot of us here bust our asses here at our jobs and by the end of the week, hopefully, there will be a couple dollars left over that you can throw at your car, at least that's how it is for me.

That sucks you had to sell your car for rent but that's life and it can't all be rainbows and kittens. But hey, who knows, maybe your "experiment" might work out.

I feel this is a bit ridiculous, but you need to justify well about what you want to achieve.
Why rebuilding rx7 with free parts and so on is social experiment?
And who owns the final outcome? Is the project owned by community?

ill start it off, ill give you a free airpump, you must come get it tho.... haha

To answer you're questions.
First if all. Why not build a csr from free parts? I want to put another 7 on the road. The experiment is whether members here care to put a 7 together. I want to see if its possible.

As for ownership, it would be owned by me, but usable to yhe community. Someone had to have it registered. I would only ask for the gas tank to be re-fuled when done, and some change/cash for insurance.

This is a car for the community by the community.

Anything and everything would be appreciated.

looking into my crystal ball and I see your broke ass is going to build a 7 with a questionable 13B. blow it up, trash expensive rotors, housing & irons and have a roller for sale the next day with a title like this "clean FB for sale 13b swap not running $400"

lol, the nw is getting its hate on. but if one of ya really wants a free shell i have one (fc).

this is soo gold and soo true. haha.

Sheldon, the shell i have has no front suspension at all, does not roll, has completely not stock wiring (so it will need some serious wiring mods) and no sunroof, also lots of rust. let me know if your still interested ull need a trailer/winch and some manpower.

Funny you should say that - I just bought an FB a few days ago for $400. We drove it home from 50 miles away, ran fine, but just has very low compression and the leather seats are worn out. It is an 85 GSL with a nice body, recent paint, pretty nice interior, decent tires, glass and steel sun roofs, power windows, A/C, power steer, stereo, EVERYTHING works and NO RUST.

It is just not that hard to find these things, and I can't understand why so many guys spend a year or more restoring an old junker. They are cheap because it makes no sense economically to restore them - a few of us do it anyway, but certainly not to make money.

nice find ^panel gap looks great on that front bumper skin too. I literally have never even seen a auto FB before, how do they drive compared to a 5sp?

I have never driven one, but they made a fair number of automatic RX-7s, probably the ones most likely to be scrapped when the engines died, so you younger guys won't have seen many. Went down to Jerry's in Kent to pick it up with my little tow truck, and Jerry said it runs, just drive it. So Sean drove it here, said it drives just fine, but it was gutless. Hey, it is a worn out stock 12a, running through a torque converter. I always thought the low torque of a rotary was a bad match for an automatic. I will of course convert it to a 5-speed - Lloyd has that parts car with the pedal quadrant, and I have everything else I need.

The point I was making in my previous post is that all the time spent searching for parts to fix up a gutted shell might be better spent looking for a nicer car sitting in someone's back yard. It is going to be a long term project, so searching for a car for a few months might save time in the long run.

I thought this community was a little more open then this. My friends thought it was a good idea, I guess we where all wrong. All well.

Well, I was just expressing my desire to have a free car as well. Buy low sell high... or in this case it sounds like get stuff for free and sell high. Much better idea indeed.

I don't think your idea is bad at all. I would have expected more cooperation. Particularly from this NW community. I mean, most of us have random worthless parts laying around. Instead of hoarding them, we could at least put them to good use. I have a few things, but nothing for the FB. What are your plans with this car anyway?

Yup. Only thing free here is advice. Yet, I doubt that is being taken in this case.

Hit craigslist. I see PILES of 1st gen parts on CL every day when I am looking for FD stuff. People fill their sheds with it and then eventually die, and you swoop in with $100 and fill a truck up with it :lol:

But seriously good luck with the project! It's all a matter of life priorities. Personally, I dont take on a project unless i can afford to afford it - that may happen in several ways.

I have still not received my free car yet. I have a drift event on the 20th, do we have an ETA? Would like to get it at least a day before the event to test it out.

I have a pair of gray, blue fc seats, they fit FBs just fine.

I have a 83 gs rear end open diff just needs new bearing and seals come and get it. Oh and a stock front swaybar.
