Well, looks like it's a no go. The only time available was during a practice yesterday and he unfortunately damaged his motor.

Chedstar, yeah it's a PKA event - Tues through Friday.

Chedstar 07-17-08 04:55 PM

That sucks, what type of frame/engine combination? I am assuming he was running a Honda engine.

afgmoto1978 07-17-08 05:28 PM

Tony Kart I believe and yes it was a Honda.

Alright, I need a set of hands to help me Friday and Saturday. Anybody want to volunteer? Free admission, food and drink are covered by me. I just need you to help on a few thinks, like checking tire pressures, tire temps, cleaning car, etc.

Any suckers...uh, I'm mean takers??

Looks like I'm competing against a 2008 RX-7

I went today and enjoyed myself! I really liked the small Formula's with the modified renisis motors. Couple crashes, loud cars, fast acceleration= good fun! The spec miatas were sweet. I still think the VW's had no place at the Mazda Grand Prix but w/e. I REALLY liked the camilleon colored FD. Too bad the hood wasn't up..

Thanks for the discount!!

Well your looking at the overall winner in modified class and RWD. 1:28.56, Second place is an STI with a very very fast driver Eddie Nakato (in anything he drives which if he had it his way today would have been every class Mod and Pro), 1:29.54.

During qualifying the break pads would lose their bit within 1.5 laps, well before the tires got up to proper temps, so the first 3 laps I when fast enough to get the tires up to temp, but kept the brakes and engine cool. I ended up with a 1:28.56. Next lap the line to the boost controller split and I saw 235 oil and 200 water. I need bigger oil coolers and hard lines.

The COBB GTR with R-compounds and light mods did a 1:22 lap, damn.

afgmoto1978 I loved your car, congratz on the win. It sounded great out there. A friend of mine was out taking pictures at the turn complex after the shekane (sp?). I'll post em' when he gets it up. There should be some good action shots.

What sideskirts do you have? I noticed that you had a good mmount of work done to focus air across your oil coolers/radiator/intercoolers. What material did you use to do that? I was looking to do something similar but I wasn't sure how I could make it happen without a ton of fiberglass/aluminum panel work (that I have no experience with).

What harness/roll bar is that?

Congrats on the win!

I didn't see all of the time attack, but on the runs we did see, it was generally agreed that the silver STI in the modified class was the fastest car through the chicanes. (was that Eddie? )

He had the car on the limit all the way through 1,2 and 3.

Most of the TA cars we saw could have been pushed a little harder through there.

Easy to judge from the stands I guess, but at least I have had some hot laps around the track, just not real recent.

How much boost were you running when the line split?

I'm a little surprised that oil temps got to 235. What's the max you should see?
Seems to me it's around 240, 245?

Howard Coleman is using stock oil coolers, and he's not known for going slow. I wonder why the difference?

afg ftw!!!

The Spyder 07-27-08 09:15 PM

Oh man, I knew I was going to miss all the fun :(.

I got Erics 93 MB Touring LS1 finished. You need to take it for a spin. It feels nose heavy.
And I watched the 3 rotor I built a few years ago blow on the dyno :( However steve kan did a excellent job tuning my car and I cant wait to get my new Greddy SMIC (for now).
My new camera should be here soon, lets get some good shots before you loose the stickers.

afgmoto1978 07-28-08 02:24 AM

Yeah that was Eddie. There were a few fast cars with not so fast drivers, but all had fun, well most did.

It wasn't the boost so much. This viton material is turning out to be not to robust when forced onto something of larger diameter.

Your right 240F is normal in a competition environment, it just the rate that it got to that temp was rather alarming to me. Since oil is 40% of a rotaries cooling and the amount of power I'm generating, going bigger on oil coolers won't hurt.

Agreed, Howard Coleman is fast. As far as what he's running and what he sees for oil temps would be a question to ask him.

Thanks Mitch, did you come by and watch?

And yes Marc you did miss a good showing. I did a nice at the limit drift, almost to the wall, but saved it maneuver at turn 12 in front of the stands during qualifying.

I was there in a jetta tdi cup car. It was a pre-loved car and number 25. The one that didn't end up in the wall at the end. I started 28th due to tranny problems and ended in 20th. Made a lot of awesome passes and was only handed 3 positions by people going off. No damage which was my main goal and I couldn't have moved up any farther than 20th since there was a huge gap between me and 19th by the time i got there.

Good seeing the guys from corksport! I'll probably be coming up there to visit the place tomorrow.

The Pre-Loved car (the one that went into the wall) had some "interesting" lines through the chicane. My wife and daughter were both trying to figure out what the heck he was doing. :hahaha:

Granted, that set of corners can be a little tricky when you're new to them.

I've asked: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/dual-oil-coolers-cheap-633480/page4/

afgmoto1978 07-28-08 04:19 PM

I saw the impact of the other Pre-loved car. He hit it around +50-60 mph, fast enough to get the rear tires off the ground by 2 feet.

Good racing, but those cars are too quiet.

afgmoto1978 07-28-08 07:20 PM

Thanks for posting those pics Parid

The side skirts are Shine Auto Feed Replica's and currently I just have Styrofoam block and aluminum ducting tape in place, I made a aluminum duct for the IC out of thin aluminum sheet. Later this year I will be making CF ducts for the larger oil coolers I will now be getting and for the IC/Radiator.

Race Shop four point cage and Sparco Six-Point.
