My question is, how many races will you be able to compete in. Hell the close one in oregon is a good 4+ hours away. Sounds fun, but for me its alot of money to spend on one race. If you race more, well I have a job, would be spending alot of time and money in gas than you would if you won anything. Just a point to ponder.

What you say is all very true.

It would be one race that we'd be preparing for. It's a really cool concept that I don't really want to give up on.

Car: $500
Safety equpiment: ~$1,200 (Roll cage, helmets, suits, tires, etc.)
Gas: ~$700
Other costs: ~$800

These are just estimates. And in 24 Hours of LeMons, it is possible that our car be chosen to be destroyed. We could always get a team together, each save some cash, and compete in 2013 or even in another league if we don't have time or the funds right now. We'd have more time to prepare a car and the team's strategy. We can't just give up. I'd like to hear what others have to say.

(Thank you RW-7 for cleaning up the thread. You read my mind.)

I think you guys can do better price wise on a FB for this project than the one in the link. These cars tend to fall out of the sky. I bought a GSL-SE for 50 bucks once.

bontis101 10-17-11 01:12 AM

Damn. That's pretty cheap... That would leave us quite a bit more money for the rest of the build. Thanks for the info. Are you interested in participating hornbm?

Like I said... It may be late November, maybe December before we actually meet up. For now, keep those ideas on the top of your head, write them down, whatever. Keep them fresh, though!

We have two people in Bellevue, WA. Two in the Lacey/Olympia, WA area. One in Vancouver, WA. And one in Silverdale, WA. - We are all somewhat spread out.

We need to find a "mid-point" to meet up. After reviewing a map... I figure somewhere below Olympia, WA may be our best bet. (We won't be meeting up for quite some time. I will give advanced notices.)

This can all be discussed, though. Anymore input?

Awesome. I advise the most recent members to the list, to read the 24 Hours of LeMons prices and rules.

1.0: WARNING: Racing is Exceedingly Taxing, both Physically and Mentally. When driving a racecar, you'll be exposed to extreme (both high and low) temperatures; to dense smoke and fumes; to intense shocks and vibration; to very loud noises; and to a variety of other unusual, exhausting, confusing, and stressful conditions. EVEN IF YOU THINK YOU'RE IN EXCELLENT HEALTH, TELL YOUR DOCTOR WHAT YOU'RE PLANNING TO DO; GET A FULL PRE-COMPETITION PHYSICAL EXAM BEFORE YOU START RACING; AND ESTABLISH A REGULAR SCHEDULE FOR RE-TESTS!

Hmm im submariner i dont think i qualify for this...........

parid 11-02-11 09:58 PM

I run a chumpcar team out of oregon. Feel free to ask any questions. Last weekend was the second 2011 event at Portland. We fielded 83 cars (4-5 rx7s too!) for an awesome weekend. Unfortunately my team didn't finish due to a still unknown issue. It shouldn't be anything too major though. We will be back up and running for our next event at Laguna Seca in December.

You way want to consider running chumpcar as well as lemons. Chumpcar has 4 events in the NW (5 if you count canada) next year. ChumpCar also has a true 24hr race mid summer in Spokane. Last year lemons only ran one race in the NW at ORP. ORP is also hosting their own events call "rat races" that are essentially the same rule sets. The ORP manager was walking the pits last weekend and mentioned they are going to run 4+ events. It should be pretty simple to build one car to meet all the rules. What it comes down to is that we pretty much have more events in 2012 than we would want. Spoiled for choice.

So far no one has braved pacific raceways running a crap-can event. Maybe lemons in 2012? Chumpcar won't.

Chumpcar also doesn't destroy cars (well unless the owners decide to drive them into walls, RIP chumpcar #1 :( ).

Plan on spending at least 4k preping the team and car. Fueling supplies, spares, parts cars (yes sssss), tires, brakes, spare engines, towing, fuel (LOTS of fuel, we regularly burn 100+gal in a weekend not including towing),something to store all that fuel in, don't forget all the personal safety gear too! Maybe even lights for night racing. On top of the build/team costs you will probably spend 400-500 per driver per race (on fuel, entry fees, tires, brakes, fluids, ect).

It may sound like a lot but its by far the cheapest wheel to wheel racing in North America. You get a ton of wheel time and I haven't found a bigger rush yet. It's amazing fun and you will NOT be disappointed you did it.

If you don't have your car ready in time, you should come down and volunteer for the race or crew with a team during the March PIR race.

dwb87 11-03-11 03:14 AM

Chumpcar seems pretty cool... LeMons kind of scares the shit out of me. Some of the rules seem so random and "off the wall". (I wouldn't want to build a car and then have it destroyed.)

I'm seriously considering coming down in March to volunteer. I appreciate your post.

hornbm 11-18-11 01:25 PM

Figured you guys would like to know, they are having a lemons race in shelton, wa next year, just announced!
