After much debate.....
all i have to say is 787 ************. nothin touches a well built rotary. and i totally agree any piston motor in an rx-7 is killing the spirit of the car. do some research on the 787 n see the pwnage
im running a lt1 and you guys can say what you want but i dont see how it kills the car at all because its still an rx7 its like swapping any car with a bigger motor it just makes the rx7 go faster....and im running my stock lt1 at the track soon with street tires and ill be looking at mid 12s... and i get mid-high 20s mpg commuting from maple valley to seattle everyday for work
i honestly dont think u understand. rx-7 stands for rotary experiment 7. . . get it yet. everything about the car is meant to be similar to a rotary, its weight its handling abilities its quickness. it may make it faster but thats all, id doesnt add to the uniqueness of the car if anything it takes away from it. what other car today has a rotary in it that mazda hasnt made? its near one of a kind
Not to jump in the middle of the shinanigans afoot but didnt lotus and alfa also have rotary cars? I know ive seen a rotary lotus on the track on youtube. And to be clear, that was more of a question than a statement.
I finished paying of my RHD conversion a week ago. I just have
to finish with my move and I can start putting stuff on the car.
it does seem *** backwards, a rhd rmagic..... camaro....
Whether I 'kill the spirit of the car' or whatever, it's a car. I
can't stand going through engines like I do it's ridiculous and
hurts my wallet in serious ways.
I debadged my car when I purchased it. It's an RX-7, not a Ariel Atom.
Just becuase I'm converting THIS car doesn't mean I'm abandoning
rotaries either, I'm on my 6th or 7th frame, and probably 13th engine.
Don't you think that in itself entitles me to try something leftfield? Just
like Tim said, I'm pleasing myself, I've never owned a V8, much less a
RX-V8.

it's a hunk of metal.
swappers keep these cars on the road, rather than sending them to be crushed...... or is that what you'd prefer? steel pays $180/ton right now.
those with closed minds will continue to beat their head against a wall
My favorite part about internet. Dude ASKED for opinions... he got them...now some people cant handle them. Trying to argue opinion is like trying to prove coffee tastes better than tea. Kinda silly sounding isnt it?
More opinion... Its not just a hunk of metal... is a statement.. or at least it WAS when I bought my car 9 years ago. Like it was mentioned above- Its the rotary engine that is at the heart of the car.. its the pulse of its heartbeat. Its not just a choice of swapping an engine to make it faster, its denying it ever had any worth as a rotary to begin with. I say if you remove its rotors, the car belongs on a Mopar forum. Im not saying its trash at that point, but I am saying its not an RX-7 any longer. Swaps keep these cars on the road? Well quit swapping and let them get crushed... I liked it when I was the only modified RX-7 for miles, now they are like a G.E.D.... every wanna be drifter has one.
More love from a rotary purist.

I do have to say, through the rants and raves about different sorts of shinanigans, I enjoyed the bitchin camaro. And since opinions run terribly thick around these parts, let me put it to you like this. . . would you ever rotarize (I just made that up i hope) a mustang. . .a bitchin camaro? probably not so why would that translate the other way around. RX7's have proven themselves more then capable of owning the competition when constructed correctly (including V8's) But the joy of living in america is that you can do what you want. I'll stick with my rotary. cause it goes hmmmmm and not boing boing boing.
Bitchen camaro! a must see!!

i have a rx-7 with a v8 and i understand where people are coming from saying its a rotary and all but seriously what is the big deal its our cars and so what if it has a v8, they are still very nice cars when done right and still show pride as an rx7 regardless of what motor they have.
Again... Let's re-iterate he asked for OPINIONS which would instigate this type of thread every time... People are offended by opinions and believe strongly in their own OPINIONS. This is unavoidable when you ask for an OPINION
ive been watching this thread very closely to make sure it dosent spiral into the abyss and everytime i start to have a whoa moment i remember that he did in fact ask for those opinions.
so well put tim.
and play nice you guys
If one is a purist, why is it modified? a true purist would believe in keeping it completely & totally stock. after all.... it's perfect the way they built it at the factory, right?

hahaha jesus, good one Fumi. Yeah it's true though Tim, I shoulda realized
that was opening up a shitstorm when I asked, I thought there would be
some honest opinions about pros and cons of having a piston engine though.
Not a bunch of "Your cars been bastardized", or "or sounds like fun"? Keep
it civil guys, both pro and anti piston. It's just a car after all.

Sorry to double post, but I think I just procured my engine for......
300 dollars ^_^ woohoo. Still finding out what's going on with
it, how many miles etc. I don't think it comes with a tranny, so
T56 here I come. Another guy for the same price has a LB9 for
sale with harness and ECU. Bitchin' Camaro! lol
