After much debate.....

.... On what I was going to do with my engine needs, I've finally
decided. I was sseriously back and forth about a RE/REW swap
for the longest time. After talking to several people, alot of them
racers or drifters, I've finally decided, LS1 I figure this
will give me the best bang for my buck as far as parts, mods, gas
mileage and raw power and torque. I feel so dirty for some reason.

What does the PNW think? I know a couple of you are out there
rocking these things already. Lemme hear from you that I'm
making the right choice.

Good to know there hasn't been any hatred yet, thanks for the encouragement guys. I will deffinetly keep you posted. I'm searching around now for a block, setup and installation seems (costly) but very straight forward with all of it done MANY times before.

It's hard to argue with the $ + Torque you get from a LS1/2 conversion.
Cost big bucks to equal it in Rotors.
I'll stick with my Rotors.....but I understand the dilemma.....

.......I'd drift it!

Now, just because you are going LS1, it's not just going to fall into your car and run perfectly. STILL expect there to be tons of problems, tons more $ to be spent than you think you will be, and tons more time lost than you could ever imagine. In the end is it worth it? I don't know, ask me this Sat. night and I will give you an answer.

Hey I feel for your quandry, I grew up around american muscle all my life, my truck has a 351W and my mustang has a 302, both good power, rwd = fun :P
And that was my draw to the Rx7. It # for # runs at the front for weight and power. That and it kinda reminds me of a 68 fastback. Trust me I looked at my mustang manual and could have sworn it was a 1st gen on the front. Do what you will with your car. I have thought of donoring my trucks motor to my rx7. Just remember not to get upset when a rotor beats your pistons. . .jk man keep us posted.

This could be you though. . .

I have ZERO shame in saying that pistons in an RX-7 are TOTAL FU*KING BULLSHIT.

You all know me and that im not a "internet crap talking" kinda guy.. so it should mean alot that im speaking up about this. If you want a V8... buy a muscle car... But if you do go LS-1... do me a favor and de-badge your car.. cause the R stands for Rotary. IMO opinion, its not a Torqe vs. cost vs. power kinda thing.. its about the spirt of the rotary engine.. and ive got room to talk.. cause i have the slowest rx7 that ever existed

........ What was that joke you told me once Ben? Something about V8 engines in rx7s and incest?

I apologize if ive offended anyone with my comments.

What does the PNW think?
But it's not about fuel economy, if it was you'd be looking at Geo Metros' LSi [lol]

Personally.. I'd RE-think that ^_-

But if the V8 will make you happy.. Enjoy it, like Fumi said it's all about what you want, and not what we crazy people think.
[I'm still voting no LS1 though ^_-]

I don't look back. I'm running a stock LS1 engine and next time I'm at the drag strip I'll be running in the 11's with only minor changes.
My brother's expecting 12's out of his stock LT1, we just did his first startup 7/7/08.... it scared the hell out of the dog, so bad she was still shaking the next day!!!!

the swap does take work and will suck your wallet dry, (all the little stuff adds up) but it'll make you smile every time you get to hammer it. the first startup is always a big boost along the way (must be done with open headers!) the great thing is, the LS1 swap is very well documented.

there are some that don't have any appreciation for swapped cars, or the work involved.... to each their own. we could argue all day long, in the end it's still your car.... as mine is my car, and I like mine the way it is now. is it worth it? Hell yes!!!!!

as far as time, some experienced swappers have done the swap in one weekend. (having all the parts lined up and ready)
many of the parts and systems are now available to make it easy... i.e. mount kits, cooling systems, headers,etc.... how long it takes and how much it costs is up to you & your patience in finding deals. they've made it almost a bolt-in affair.

are they more reliable at a higher power level with little maintenance? unquestionably.
are they faster? that depends on the driver, even though you'd have more power/torque over a broader & more usable range.
will you break more parts?.... possibly, but now it's likely to be different ones.... depends on how you set up your car & your driving style.
is it fun? hell yes.
all that being said, these cars can get a person in trouble really fast if they don't know how to drive.

Building a car is like this: (or for the ladies) you don't do it to please others, you do it to please yourself.

13bt with downpipe removed pwns 350 with open headers

either way you will beat all 4 cylinders and most 6 cylinders.

for how long?

big deal, one car beat another.

now, for comparison (talking dedicated drag engines), the average drag racer running a SBC rebuilds about ever 2 years(the ls1 is not the old SBC). the average guy running a Ford, every 3 years. the average guy running a mopar, every 5 years.

so I ask again.... for how long?

^ Are you asking how many years does a rotary engine last? I dunno. The engine in my FD is about 14 years old though.

seems to me that notveryhappyjack is comparing drag cars, so that's what i'm referring to. not too many cars are daily drivers with open headers, or turbo downpipes removed. let me rephrase the question..... how many seasons does an average turbo rotary drag car last?

It looked to me like he was saying the sound owned, not the reliability of hammering it every time it's driven..
