For Sale – 1982 Mazda RX7 Race Car plus Many, Many Spares

After 25 years it is finally time to part with my well prepared 1982 RX7.  This was originally an SCCA  Spec7, which morphed into a PRO7, then ITA/STL.  It would also fit in NASA in ST5 or ST6.  It has also been used for ChampCar, Lucky Dog and WRL endurance races.  Currently has SCCA, NASA, Lucky Dog and ChampCar logbooks.  Comes with a huge cache of spare parts

The car is easy to drive and roughly the same speed as a fast Spec Miata.  Lots of effort has been put into improving/optimizing(?) driver ergonomics. 

The full rollcage is a Spec7-mandated AutoPower bolt-in cage.  It was later modified to sit higher (additional head room) and added Nascar door bars and a dash bar.  Lucky Dog is not a fan of bolt-in cages, but it is currently grandfathered.  That might be an issue with a new owner, but not sure.  Otherwise the cage is fully approved in all other race groups. 

The following are the main features:

·         Mild Street Port 12A.  Approx. 90 race hours.  Oil changed after every race weekend.  140-150 rwhp. 
·         Aluminum Koyo Radiator with electric fan switched from the dash
·         Specially ducted 2nd-gen front mounted oil cooler.
·         Miata transmission w/ short shifter.
·         Race suspension.  450/250 front/rear springs.  Bilstein Sport shocks front and rear.  Shortened (2”) front struts to increase travel.  G-Force Tri-Link rear end w/ panhard bar
·         Small bearing rearend w/ 4.44 stock LSD
·         Stock steering replaced with rack and pinion.  2 sets of stock components included.
·         3” Exhaust is quiet but non-restrictive.  Very comfortable for endurance racing.  RB short header with industrial grade ceramic coating.  Stainless RB pre-silencer, SS expansion chamber, and SS turbo muffler.
·         Kirkey Series 71 16” seat with custom right and left side leg support.
·         Wheel adapters to use 4x100 wheels.  Includes 6 15x7 Kosei and 4 15x7 Team Dynamics.  Option for 15 13x7 Panasports
·         Firesense SFI-approved fire system
·         Instrumentation:  oil temp, coolant temp, low coolant pressure, low oil pressure, stock oil pressure, air/fuel

The following is a partial list of important spare parts

·         2 transmissions.  1 with Miata gears and one stock.  Miata geared tranny should have input shaft bearing replaced.  Stock is believed good
·         2 differential 3rd members.  3.9 and 4.77, both with stock LSD.  Set-up should be checked on both, but LSD’s are both good with about 40ftlb break-away.  Also small bearing axle housing with lots of spare axles. 
·         Several pairs of front struts, including one pair fully setup with Bilstein shocks and adjustable spring perches
·         Lots of body parts.  Multiple hoods, fenders, doors, bumpers, headlights.
·         Brakes.  New rotors, pads, master cylinder.  Lots of rebuildable calipers (front and rear) and maybe a new one or two. 
·         2 FC oil coolers
·         Lots more
