Summary

I am selling my father’s RX7 Mazda as unfortunately he is now too old to drive it.

It is currently in the Netherlands and is Dutch registration plated. (We still have its original plates from when it was in the UK). The car passed its MOT in Oct 2021 and it is road worthy and running. Starts hot and cold and is currently stored inside. See attached compression test completed on the 20/10/21.

The car has been in our family since 1994. It was purchased in Chester UK in 1994. We have replaced only the parts that have been required for MOT’s etc over the years using OEM parts. It was resprayed about 5 years ago (Alfa Romeo Bahama yellow). There are a couple of tiny marks on the paint work – but otherwise it’s in good condition. Its pretty much in original stock condition from when we first owned it back in 1994. It was imported from Japan into the UK back in 1993 and was originally black although it was already yellow when we purchased it in 1994. It remained in the UK until 2002 when we exported it to France. In 2019 the car moved to Holland which is where it now resides.

Mileage from new approx. 70,000 miles (mileage counter currently not working – some dash electrics need fixing and maintenance including the electrics for the sound system - suspect a fuse replacement required). It has done about 8,000 miles since complete engine rebuild by RoTechniks in Reading UK in 2002. When RoTechniks rebuilt the engine they did so with deeper grooves fitted with wider blades to improve performance.

Having contacted the DVLA, if anyone wants to bring it back into the UK – you would need to pay a 5% VAT on sale price for import under the classic car category or check for commodity code with HMRC. If the old UK number plate is still available it would be reallocated its previous plate.

The car runs well and is great fun to drive, but like any car of its age (nearly 30 years old) it has some wear and tear. The interior is original – and seat leathers are worn. The undercarriage reflects the natural age of the vehicle and could do with a good clean but with no major rust concerns. I think it would benefit from some new rear suspension springs being fitted. A few minor TLC bits and bobs required: the internal passenger side door handle is broken and the seat belt alarm needs fixing. The electrics to the passenger side dash speed dials – where never connected since we’ve owned the vehicle.

There’s a nice write up and review of these cars at : https://www.hagerty.com/media/buying- and-selling/fd-mazda-rx-7-buyers-guide/ for anyone considering buying.

Please message me via the forum if you would like to ask any questions.

Not familiar with Type E. Do you have a pick of the VIN plate or manufacturer's door sticker?

hi. Yes I am told it was originally black but we never saw it black. It was yellow when we bought it in 1994 and we resprayed it yellow again about 4-5 years ago. Alex

I am biased. Sorry.

Perhaps review the last few months of this thread.:

Redbul, it's a car in Europe with a paint color change, unknown mileage and it could certainly stand a good interior and engine bay cleaning before posting pics for sale. Interesting car for sure and I like the look (big wing and all) but I don't think raising the price is going to somehow increase interest

Yeah. Even some recent Canadian LHD have sold at a discount to US market, due to percieved import documentation risk (among other things I am sure).

I have not done this recently, but maybe take the last ten Japan auction trades for similar year and model and odometer reading adjusted for import costs (and hastle).

I would like to see a VIN search on that car.

One advantage/disadvantage may be that that car is a long ways away from Australia.

But the Eastcoast US?

What are transatlantic container rates these days?

Surely there are established car importation routes.
