It is a 1994 front end. I did a front-end swap and a rhd conversion... it's complicated haha

Clockspring or not?

Most JDM did not have airbags until 1996. There was a simple rotating contact system for the horn. What is your steering wheel? What are you trying to achieve?

Oh, that makes a lot of sense. So I need to take the car for inspecting to get her back on the road and I need airbags for that I'm 90% sure. if the car never came with an airbag then I should be good but did the stock steering wheels not have the center part for JDM cars? My front clip went with an aftermarket steering wheel so I took that off and I have my LHD stock wheel from the other good half and I'm putting that on. So the wires for 1 in the image you posted, are they for airbags and the horn? it seems like it is from how the connectors look.

There are at least three versions of the FD wheel prior to the introduction of driver's airbags mid-run of the Version 4 models. The most recent one is considered favorably by enthusiasts. There are several on Buyee atm at about US$180. Find one and ask Jesse Streeter to bid for you.

In the diagram the smaller unit in the green circle is simply a pedestal with two crescent shaped springy electrodes. On the underside of the wheel is a metal disc. This simply connects the horn.

It is likely your front clip does not have the five (or so) airbag sensors, eh? And the airbag CPU under the center speaker?

If you have the Vin number of the front clip, ask Akagi to search the Type information. This will identify if the car was originally a "non-airbag" car. (i.e. any manual transmission car prior to mid-1996.)

The earliset JDM steering wheels look like they may have an airbag, they don't.

The JDM automatics had the "bus wheel" steering wheel like the USDM. Those had airbqgs.

This is the early non-airbag steering wheel. I looks very sharp. Hence the high price.

This is the version 4 non-airbag wheel. Pretty sharp eh? These were selling for about US$500, but price has dropped.

Buyee will not bid for because their screening AI thinks there may be an airbag.

So use Jesse Streeter.

Jesse is fast, efficient and his fees are surprisingly low.

Shipping by Japan Post "Surface" is also cheap.

In the end you may have to go with your USDM wheel and clockspring and DIY the horn wiring out the back of the clockspring.

Because the electrode pedestal is hard to find.

So it turns out I have a 1992 JDM clip, the most common build. I'm still confused because on the dash there is a light next to the catalytic converter heat that says, Air Bag. But everything else about this is telling me that this car doesn't have airbags. I'm just trying to make sure it can pass a state inspection.

It may have the imprint for airbag, but they may not have come with a light bulb for it (or maybe no circuit either)

The Type X had the airbag steering wheel. So the RHD dash may have had accomodation for that.

Only in 1992 there was a Type X manual that likely had the airbag and cruise control. The Type X manual had a little window in the tach to show "cruise" control on,

Check your tach. If it has that, or even has the PRNDL markings, that clip might be from a Type X.
