1990 Mazda RX-7 GXL w/18k original miles - $18,000 OBO

I bought this car from the original owner in Burlington, VT about six years ago. He wanted to sell it because he was getting too old to enjoy it and had trouble getting in and out of the driver's seat. He used it as a weekend car almost exclusively for Sunday drives to church and errands around town. He kept the car in a barn on a concrete pad with an OEM car cover on it (included in the sale). He told me he had done regular oil changes - there are no records of this but I have no reason to doubt him. The interior of this car is absolutely perfect with nearly no wear at all on either seat and absolutely no scrapes or scratches on any of the panels. It still smells new and even has the coveted S5 cargo cover still in great shape. The exterior paint is in great shape with absolutely no sun fade but could use a polish. However, there are a handful of dents/dings around the car including a fairly significant one on the passenger side rear quarter panel (see pictures).

Since I've owned the car I've only put about 400 miles on it, mostly used to get the car inspected every year and to take it out to stretch its legs and ensure everything continues to work properly. The oil has been changed yearly even with the tiny amount of miles driven between each change. The car has been taking up valuable garage space under that same OEM cover for the better part of 6 years. My plan was to get all the exterior blemishes fixed but I have too many other projects and not a lot of free time to do much. It's time to pass the torch (and appreciating market) on to someone else to look after it.

I've included a myriad of pictures, but if there's anything specific you want me to get up close or picky about, just let me know - more than happy to take more.

The car is listed for $18k but I am totally open to all offers. I don't really know what the market will command for this, but my thought was that a concourse-level car with similar miles would go for about $23k according to NADA and what i've seen on BaT, so I've adjusted my asking price based on the exterior blemishes.

 The great:

  • 18,298 original miles (as of this post - I don't drive it so it'll probably stay here)
  • the car runs and drives like new
  • absolutely no rust, including inside of the fuel door, the underbody, engine bay, and side rockers
  • the interior is easily a 10/10
  • mechanically and electrically perfect
    • the engine starts and runs flawlessly (cold and warm), no 3800 rpm hesitation
    • the gearbox shifts perfectly and the clutch feels new
    • no cooling issues
    • new battery (May 2021)
    • rear tires were changed by previous owner and look new
      • front tires are original to the car from 1990 and still have lots of life
  • garaged for its entire life, covered most of the time too
  • still has the original pin stripes
  • the wheels look like they just came out of the factory
  • comes with original OEM car cover
 Could use some work:
  • lets talk about the dings:
    • a dent through the paint on the passenger side rear quarter panel about the size of a silver dollar. Looks like the door of a truck may have hit it
    • a ding on the bottom of the passenger front fender about the size of a quarter (also through the paint) - probably from a stone/rock
    • a ding on the passenger side door where the pin stripes are, not through the paint - definitely from a car door
    • a ding on the driver side door, also where the pin stripes are, not through the paint - also definitely from a car door
    • a ding on the hood, likely from a stone, not through the paint
  • the 30 year old speakers need to be replaced - they're staticy and can't handle bass well, the paper cones didn't hold up after 30 years
  • I've been slowly and meticulously cleaning the engine bay as it was a bit dirty when i got it - there's about 35% left to clean, mostly towards the firewall (see pictures)
  • paint could use a polish
