Twin Turbo Sizing

Hey when you guys buy a twin set up do you guys get the same size turbos or one bigger than another?

Sorry if it's a noob question, i'm trying to learn about twin setups

Parallel twin setups need to have the same sized turbos. There aren't any kits available except modified FD twins.

Sequential twins can have different sized turbos, as can compound twins.

Aaron Cake you're my hero man

thanks for the info

oh and do they make aftermarket sequentials?

BNR Stage III turbos are your bolt-in aftermarket sequential option.

The only other bolt in sequentials are the basic stock twins and the slightly updated "99 spec" twins.

Knightsport makes some bolt on I believe but they are few and far between and very pricy.

So which do you guys think would be a better buy a single turbo FD or Twin FD?

Sideo 11-24-10 11:41 PM

That's one of those questions where there is no right or wrong answer sequential is great because the first turbo spools up so early yet the boost stays strong through all rpms. But sequential is also very complicated and hard to find problems also the transition can be rough causing problems for road racing in the middle of a corner. Single turbo can spool fine if a ball bearing model is used and it clears up the engine bay some, saves weight and has a lot less hoses and electronics.

If money was no option I would love to have a custom sequential setup with two ball bearing turbos.

Howard Coleman has a great parallel setup I would look into ALL of his posts he has a ton of great information methanol injection oil additives suspension setup anything really.

The one in better condition. FDs don't "restore"

ssonsk 11-25-10 04:27 PM

what do you mean by restore?

Some people buy FDs that are in rough shape thinking they got a deal and the cost to restore stuff will be worth it. A project car if you will. They always end up saving nothing or losing money compared to buying a better FD at the start. So don't buy a car in rough shape because the mods seem a little better.
