Ok so I bought a 1990 rx7 vert a couple days ago an it was fin unroll today it had trouble getting into reverse felt like a brick wall, PO Installed a corksport short shifter so I figured he screwed it up.... anyway just got home parks it in what I thought was neutral and bam it stalls I'm like what the f,
so I try again but easing of clutch like in gear and it moves in reverse with shifter in what feels like neutral I can still grab what feels like 1st and 2nd no other gear but it does nothing but slowly stall when I let of the clutch....... so I took shifter apart see in if I can spot hi mistake and I can't put it back together Same thing no better

Here are some pics of shifter assembly let me know if anything look wrong because I have no clue

Hopefully I don't need a rebuild if I do I'm going to look for a used trajectory just go ripp off paying 1900$ tough for this car but I felt fine that day so old what to do

Looks fine, but you may want to put a dab of grease or a touch of gear oil in there to keep things lubed up.(MAZDATRIX for Mazda RX7, RX8, Rotary Engine Parts and Accessories ..short shifter video)
That 'paper clip thing" is the shifter return spring.
It holds the lower ball of the shifter in that little "cue chalk block".It also returns the shifter to Neutral middle position.

You may want to read your posts before submitting them too..Your Auto-Correct makes you sound Foreign!

Anyone in myrtle beach willing to help a new rx7 owner?? Can't seem to find anything to fit in reverse light switch hole to pop reverse shaft towards rear of car and don't want to take it some where because everywhere I called even A Mazda specialist who has seen this before said they would take the gearbox out and replace this ...and ..that basically a full rebuild they just didn't want to say it but even with a rebuild it seems it does not stop this problem just a bad design not having a lock out on that shaft I guess......

Does not help I'm not allowed to work on my car in my girlfriends driveway.......long story..

But I'm going to keep trying to get this thing back in neutral hopefully....and drive it while I get some money buy a use trans for 100$ rebuild it throw it in.

plenty of decent shape used trannys floating around in the classifieds. I believe you now have the post count to get in their as well.

As for not having money, hahahah this car will suck you dry. Worse then a divorce after three years of marriage

So I finally got it back in neutral this morning then right when I got it back I had my helper go threw the gears to check well he went to reverse and it got stuck again!........so an hour an a half later got it back to neutral again and now I'm not touching reverse at all untill I get a used Trans and rebuild it.....

Pain in the ass so far with this rx7 but dam with the top down clippin 7500 rpm, rotary buzzing makes it all worth it ......till I have to back up lol
